Samsung launches new 256GB SD Express microSD card and 1TB UHS-1 microSD card for 2024

Samsung has launched its latest 256-gigabyte SD Express microSD card, which offers sequential read speeds of up to 800 MB/s, and has started mass production of its 1-terabyte UHS-1 microSD card. The company aims to provide differentiated memory solutions for mobile computing and on-device AI applications. The SD Express microSD card, developed in collaboration with a customer, offers performance equivalent to SSDs in a small form factor due to its low-power design and firmware technology optimized for high-performance and thermal management. It can boost read speeds by up to 985 MB/s, 1.4 times faster than SATA SSDs and more than four times faster than traditional UHS-1 memory cards.

The SD Express microSD card’s sequential read speed is up to 800 MB/s, 1.4 times faster than SATA SSDs and more than four times faster than traditional UHS-1 memory cards. Dynamic Thermal Guard (DTG) technology ensures stable performance and reliability for the small form factor. Samsung’s new 1TB UHS-1 microSD card stacks eight layers of the company’s 8th generation 1-terabit V-NAND within a microSD form factor, offering a high-capacity package that used to be possible only in SSDs. The 256GB SD Express microSD card will be available for purchase later this year, while the 1TB UHS-1 microSD card is set to launch within the third quarter of this year.
