Following a successful pilot project in Indonesia in 2021, Michelin is eliminating plastic wrap on motorcycle tyres in key Southeast Asian markets. Starting December 1, 2024, Michelin Malaysia will offer premium motorcycle tyres without plastic wrap at authorized dealers. This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste, with an estimated 317,700 kilograms cut in 2024 across Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, supporting Michelin’s goal of zero net waste from tire wraps globally.
“This move is one of the many tangible actions that we at Michelin look forward to, in aligning with our ‘All Sustainable’ vision, aiming to evolve our growth model towards one that takes our planet’s limits into consideration,” said Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. “In line with our ‘4R’ circular economy approach—‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Renewable’, we aim to deliver the same exceptional performance and quality in our motorcycle tyres that Michelin is known for, while working toward a more sustainable future.”
Dangrojana added, “Our consumers are at the heart of all we do at Michelin Malaysia, and we understand that more discerning eco-consciousness is on the rise. With Malaysia joining the majority of countries with Michelin operations that no longer use plastic wrap for our two-wheel tyres, our consumers now get to contribute to protecting the environment and safeguarding the planet from plastic pollution alongside us.”
To reduce plastic waste, Michelin has redesigned the sticker label on its motorcycle tyres to include essential tire information directly on the tread. These tyres, without plastic wrap, still offer a 6-year warranty against manufacturing defects, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Tyre patterns that will be involved in the initiative will include:

- MICHELIN CITY EXTRA
- MICHELIN CITY GRIP
- MICHELIN CITY GRIP 2
- MICHELIN CITY GRIP SAVER
