LG Electronics (LG) has fully opened the API of its smart home platform, LG ThinQ, allowing developers to create smart spaces with LG appliances.
LG launched the LG Smart Solution API Developer website (smartsolution.developer.lge.com) to facilitate this. The open API enables developers to integrate features from LG AI appliances into their systems, enhancing their services.
The LG ThinQ API comprises two categories: the ThinQ API for individual users and the ThinQ Business API for corporate partners. It enables remote control of LG devices in homes or buildings and integration with various platforms.
Individual users can monitor and control AI appliances via the LG ThinQ app through the ThinQ API. For instance, Home Assistant users can connect 26 types of LG AI appliances, including refrigerators and washing machines, enhancing their smart home experience. Home Assistant is a collaborative open platform with about one million users working on smart home functions and automation.
The ThinQ Business API enables enterprises, like residential buildings, to integrate various LG products, such as appliances and HVAC systems, with their existing applications. This allows residents to reserve LG washers and dryers through management apps and enables administrators to monitor conditions with LG’s sensors for prompt issue resolution.
LG has boosted its LG ThinQ platform by acquiring Athom, a smart home hub known for connecting over 50,000 IoT devices. Athom offers around 1,000 apps for various global brands. LG intends to merge Athom’s ecosystem into its AI home hub, LG ThinQ On, to enhance customer understanding and optimize space solutions using generative AI.

This initiative will bolster our efforts to create smart home ecosystems powered by LG appliances, enhancing customer experiences across multiple touchpoints,” said Kim Kun-woo, vice president of LG’s Home Appliance Solution Company.
