Carlsberg launches new Sabah and Sarawak artist-edition packaging

In Sabah and Sarawak, rice symbolizes life and unity, deeply rooted in traditions and the dedication of farmers. Carlsberg’s latest Sabah and Sarawak artist-edition packaging brings this rich heritage to life, showcasing stunning rice art that celebrates cultural pride.

Carlsberg Smooth Draught will showcase beautiful rice art designs on its cans and bottles all year. Due to popular demand, Carlsberg Danish Pilsner will also be available for a limited time in April and May. This marks the 5th year of the special artist-edition packaging, highlighting Carlsberg’s dedication to celebrating local traditions through art.

The designs, titled “By locals, For locals,” were created by Sabahan artist Nelson Lip and Sarawakian artist T. Bagak. Each design showcases important symbols from Borneo. Each variant features two designs: one representing Sabah and the other representing Sarawak, promoting local pride with every drink.

The packaging of Carlsberg Smooth Draught captures Borneo’s spirit, with Sabah’s design showing the majestic Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia’s tallest mountain. Sarawak’s design features the Hornbill, a respected symbol of culture and good luck, perched above a longhouse.

Carlsberg Danish Pilsner’s packaging celebrates the region’s heritage as well, featuring Sabah’s design with the gentle Orangutan and the rare Rafflesia flower. Sarawak’s design highlights cultural traditions through the soothing sounds of the Sape and the inviting atmosphere of the traditional longhouse.

“The essence of Gawai and Kaamatan is deeply tied to the harvest and rice. Carlsberg honours that heritage, embracing the unity, gratitude, and celebration at the heart of these festivals. We’re thrilled to once again ‘Raikan Kebanggaan Sabah & Sarawak’ with a stronger focus on local pride as we collaborate with two talented local artists, whose designs beautifully capture the spirit of Sabah and Sarawak, making every celebration #BestWithCarlsberg,” said Olga Pulyaeva, Marketing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia.
