Warner Music Malaysia has announced their strategy to elevate Malaysian music regionally during ‘Raikan Raya Bersama Warner Music Malaysia’ Raya Open House 2024. In conjunction with the Raya celebrations, Warner Music Malaysia, in partnership with Aloft Kuala Lumpur as the official venue sponsor, hosted 25 children from local orphanage Rumah Titian Kaseh at the event to spread the blessings of Raya and bring support to the children. The afternoon was made livelier with special performances from local Warner Music artists such as Syamel, Amsyar Leee, Layla Sania, Zynakal, TUJU and Luqman Podolski.

Dinesh Ratnam, Managing Director of Warner Music Malaysia said “Over the years, we’ve witnessed a remarkable pool of talent and incredible potential within Malaysia. The success our artists have achieved both locally and regionally on digital music streaming platforms, is proof that there is a palate for our local talents overseas. Malaysians are extremely talented, and frankly, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be making a much bigger mark on the regional and even global music scene.”
“By fostering a thriving ecosystem, it is our aim to elevate the local music industry to new heights. This means enabling and commercialising the creativity of our artists, advocating for their originality and nurturing their talent. It’s about amplifying exceptional music to resonate with broader audiences regionally and globally; identify and create new opportunities to empower our artists and expand their reach. Essentially, Warner Music Malaysia’s vision is about creating a dynamic and evolving landscape where creativity flourishes, great music resonates, and our artists not only survive but thrive,” he added.
Malaysian Music Makes Waves
Building upon a strong foundation of success, Warner Music Malaysia highlighted the impressive achievements of Malaysian artists on the popular digital music streaming service, Spotify. These include Kugiran Masdo being named #1 Local Artist of the Year, while Luqman Podolski secured a coveted #3 position. The Border Beats playlist further showcased the depth of Malaysian talent, with numerous local artists making their mark, and among these standouts, ChronicalZ’s track managed to soar to the #1 position.
“SAH” by Sarah Suhairi featuring Alfie Zumi was also seen on a winning streak, achieving the #1 position on the Malaysian RIM Chart in March and amassing a phenomenal 1.8 billion views on TikTok. This chart-topping success transcended borders, with “SAH” landing within the Top 50 on the Spotify Indonesian Charts, marking it as the highest-performing Malaysian song on Spotify Indonesia for 2024.
Crossing Borders, Breaking Records
Recognising Indonesia as a key market with immense potential, Warner Music Malaysia acknowledged the longstanding success stories of Malaysian exports to Indonesia in the creative industry like Upin & Ipin and Siti Nurhaliza. Building on this, the label is proud to celebrate the recent achievements of Kugiran Masdo, the highest charting Malaysian band in the last 4 years on Spotify Indonesia. This, together with the phenomenal success of “SAH” by Sarah Suhairi and Alfie Zumi in Indonesia further emphasises the immense potential for Malaysian music to resonate deeply with fans and listeners alike, both locally and regionally .
Amplifying Malaysian Creativity – From Local to Regional
As a result of these promising developments, Warner Music Malaysia is ready to implement a strategic plan with a multi-pronged approach to commercialise Malaysian Music effectively and sustainably. Leveraging its regional and global network, the label aims to further promote Malaysian artists internationally and foster exciting collaborations with regional and global counterparts, creating a dynamic exchange of musical ideas.
Recognising the immense value of superfans, the label is actively working on initiatives to create direct-to-fan experiences to foster stronger connections between artists and their most dedicated fans. This includes the recent announcement of a new platform specifically designed to bridge the gap between artists and their most passionate supporters. Both artists and fans crave deeper relationships, and this presents an exciting, under-explored opportunity for growth.
In support of establishing the country as a premier destination for global artists touring regionally, Warner Music Malaysia is firmly committed to supporting and investing in the live music scene in Malaysia. “By fostering collaboration with key stakeholders within the live music ecosystem, we aim to provide strategic support wherever possible to attract top-tier international talent to perform in Malaysia, and also elevate the country’s reputation as a vibrant hub for unforgettable live music experiences,” said Dinesh.
