U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network now covers 90% of populated areas in Malaysia

U Mobile has announced that its ULTRA5G network has achieved 90% 5G Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) nationwide, delivering on the company’s July 2027 commitment more than nine months ahead of schedule.

This news was shared at an event attended by YB Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil, the Minister of Communications, and YB Teo Nie Ching, the Deputy Minister of Communications. This marks an important step in U Mobile’s nationwide ULTRA5G rollout, showing how quickly the network has been set up. Earlier, the company reached over 80% coverage in March 2026, just months after starting the rollout.

U Mobile started its network rollout in July 2025 with two goals: to reach 80% coverage in the first year, and 90% coverage by July 2027. By achieving these goals ahead of time, U Mobile has fulfilled its commitments to coverage in Malaysia’s Dual 5G Network Model.

Wong Heang Tuck, Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile, said, “Achieving 90% nationwide 5G coverage more than nine months ahead of schedule reflects the determination of the entire U Mobile team and the strong collaboration of our government, regulatory, technology and infrastructure partners. We made a commitment to build a nationwide 5G network at speed and scale, and today, we are proud to have delivered on that promise ahead of schedule.”

“This milestone is more than just about reaching a coverage target. It is about bringing quality digital connectivity closer to more Malaysians and creating a stronger foundation for how people learn, work, communicate and access opportunities. With the nationwide network foundation now in place, our focus is to continue strengthening the ULTRA5G experience and helping businesses, communities and public services translate connectivity into meaningful value,” Wong added.

The fast rollout of U Mobile has received praise for its network performance. In 2026, U Mobile was recognized as Malaysia’s Best Mobile Network and the Fastest 5G Network by Ookla. Additionally, Opensignal noted improvements in reliability, quality, speed, and 5G experience. Earlier this year, U Mobile was also acknowledged by the Malaysia Book of Records for having the Fastest 5G Network Rollout in Malaysia, achieving more than 80% CoPA in under nine months.

These awards show that U Mobile’s quick rollout has led to great network performance and customer satisfaction.

Now that U Mobile has achieved nationwide coverage, it will keep improving the quality and reach of ULTRA5G, including increasing its in-building coverage. Having completed its first-year goal for 5G in-building coverage, U Mobile has surpassed 250 IBC sites across the country, enhancing indoor connectivity. The company will also continue to work on projects that help businesses use technologies like 5G-Advanced and AI solutions, supporting Malaysia’s digital progress.
