U Mobile and HLGY Energy teams up to for next-gen smart solar farm solutions in Malaysia

U Mobile has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HLGY Energy Sdn Bhd to work together on creating advanced smart solar farm solutions in Malaysia using U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network. This partnership combines private 5G connectivity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and industrial automation to improve how solar farms are monitored and managed.

HLGY Energy is a Malaysian company that focuses on building and running large solar power projects, including the Kedah Rubber City Solar Power Plant, under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).

Through the MoU, both companies will look into setting up a private 5G network that will serve as the main digital support for the smart solar farm. U Mobile will provide HLGY Energy with innovative automation and communication infrastructure. This network will offer secure and reliable connections to support features like drone inspections, AI analytics, and smart CCTV surveillance, allowing for remote monitoring, faster problem detection, and quicker responses to maintenance needs.

This partnership aligns with U Mobile’s strategy to grow its business by utilizing its ULTRA5G network to meet the demands of the renewable energy sector. The network’s performance has been recognized by Ookla and Opensignal for its speed and reliability. The collaboration also enhances U Mobile’s role as a digital solutions partner for businesses undergoing digital transformation.

How Lih Ren, Chief Business Officer of U Mobile, said, “This collaboration will demonstrate how U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network can enable the next generation of smart and sustainable infrastructure. By combining private 5G connectivity with AI and industrial automation, we aim to help HLGY Energy develop renewable energy assets that are safer, more efficient and increasingly autonomous.

“Beyond connectivity, our ambition is to be a trusted digital solutions partner to enterprises across Malaysia. We look forward to applying our network and technology capabilities to support the country’s renewable energy aspirations, including the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).”

Kenneth Yap, Chairman and Executive Director of HLGY Energy, said, “Malaysia’s green energy transition needs renewable energy infrastructure that is reliable, efficient and built for the future. Our collaboration with U Mobile brings together solar energy expertise and private 5G connectivity to explore how AI and automation can improve the way we operate and manage our solar assets.

“Integrating AI with solar generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operations can optimise when energy is stored and supplied, help reduce electricity costs and extend equipment life. As we advance our ambitions under CRESS, we aim to make clean energy a dependable choice for businesses, helping Malaysian industries decarbonise and contributing to the nation’s sustainable growth.”
