UMW Toyota Motor and Toyota GAZOO Racing Malaysia have launched the Toyota GR Malaysia eRacing Championship 2025, the nation’s premier simulator racing series aimed at finding the fastest virtual drivers and introducing them to real-world motorsport.
Rebranding from GT Cup Malaysia for its eighth year, the TGR Malaysia eRacing Championship 2025 seeks to discover top virtual racers and link them to motorsport opportunities. This year, expanding TGR’s philosophy of “pushing the limits for better,” the championship includes not just Gran Turismo but also RaceRoom, Assetto Corsa, and iRacing, offering a broader test of racing skill.
The championship has a total prize pool of RM123,000 and is split into three categories: Pro, Club, and Junior. It aims to find Malaysia’s next racing stars.
After three rounds, the top 40 drivers will compete in the quarterfinals to find the fastest 20 for the semi-finals. The top 10 racers will then compete in the grand final later this year.

Alongside the championship is the TGR Malaysia eRacing Campus Tour. This tour brings the excitement of simulator racing to universities, introducing students to the thrill of the sport. In previous years, it has helped discover several promising racers who have successfully moved to real-world racing in the VIOS Challenge.
The tour has already visited four universities: Sunway University (13 August), INTI International College Subang (19 August), Help University (27 August), and City University (3 September). More stops are planned until October.

Undergraduates can race on simulators, watch tire demonstrations by Toyo Tires, and win exclusive Toyota GAZOO Racing gear at each stop. The 10 fastest campus racers will get a spot in the championship finale.
“This initiative is more than just a competition—it’s an immersive introduction to motorsports culture designed to ignite passion and discover untapped talent. It reflects UMW Toyota’s commitment to broadening access to motorsports through digital platforms, creating new pathways for youth, and advancing our Mobility for All vision. By lowering barriers of entry and empowering talent from all walks of life, we are not only building champions but also opening the doors to a more inclusive future of racing,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

The Campus Tour has shown it can find real talent, with past participants like Raja Amirul Syauqat, Genevieve Ooi, and Jastin Rahul Dev moving on to the VIOS Challenge Rookie Class. This highlights TGR’s dedication to creating a motorsports path that connects virtual racing to real life.
