Taobao Malaysia has officially announced to launch a Malay-language interface tentatively in June, aimed at to better reflect local language preferences and meet the growing cross-border shopping needs of Malaysian users.
The announcement coincides with Taobao’s rising global popularity, as it ranks as the second-most downloaded app in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., and leads in France. Additionally, it has recently secured the second position in Malaysia’s iOS shopping app downloads, indicating significant local interest and trust in the platform.
“Our planned introduction of a Malay-language interface will mark another significant milestone in Taobao’s localisation journey and reinforce our platform’s commitment to providing every Malaysian user with a more accessible, seamless and worry-free shopping experience,” said Jess Lew, Country Head of Taobao Malaysia.
Taobao, a cornerstone of China’s e-commerce, transforms shopping for millions through its immersive and personalized experience. The platform launched its English interface in Malaysia last September, utilizing AI for automatic translation. This initiative includes bilingual customer service in English and Chinese, aiding users in exploring high-quality products.
With English product descriptions and prices in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), shopping is now simpler for Malaysians. Taobao, supported by Antom and Cainiao, ensures secure transactions and reliable deliveries. Payment options include debit and credit cards, online banking, e-wallets, and instalment plans, with order tracking available in the app.
The Taobao app can be downloaded for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
