Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City celebrates World Heart Day 2025 with education, screenings, and patient experiences

Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) will celebrate World Heart Day 2025 on Saturday, 27 September 2025, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Sunway Medical Centre Convention Centre, Level 4, Tower A. This event aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular health, prevention, and early intervention, bringing together healthcare professionals and the community.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading global cause of death, with the WHO reporting 19.8 million CVD-related deaths in 2022. In Malaysia, there were 66,779 CVD-related deaths in 2021, highlighting the need for public awareness on risk factors and prevention.

SMC will offer education, screenings, and patient experiences. Consultant Cardiologists Dr Richard Chan Tze Ming and Dr Gary Lee Chin Keong will lead sessions on prevention and lifestyle changes. The event will also include patient testimonials from the Skim Jantung Negeri Selangor programme, an AED workshop, interactive booths, health screenings, and a demonstration by Samsung Malaysia Electronics on wearable technology for heart health monitoring.

“Heart disease is not just a statistic, it is a reality for countless families in Malaysia and around the world. With greater awareness and preventive actions, many of these lives can be protected. World Heart Day is about reminding us to listen to our hearts — literally and figuratively — and to make health a priority,” said Tan Mei Shin, Senior Director of Business Development and Corporate Communications at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City

SMC has been ranked among the top 250 hospitals globally and listed in the top 75 for cardiology and cardiac surgery in Newsweek’s Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific for 2024 and 2025, highlighting its excellence in cardiovascular care.
