Sony has launched the FE 16mm F1.8 G lens (SEL16F18G), a compact and lightweight premium G Lens designed for high-resolution ultra-wide angle photography, suitable for a variety of still and video scenes. It excels with Sony Alpha series cameras for landscape, architecture, and astrophotography, while providing excellent close-up capabilities and precise, quiet autofocus.\
Outstanding resolution at ultra-wide 16 mm angles of view
The FE 16mm F1.8 G lens offers exceptional wide-angle perspectives with sharp image resolution, featuring two AA elements, one Super ED element, and three ED elements to reduce chromatic aberration, along with optimized coatings to minimize flare and ghosting.
Supreme G Lens bokeh and outstanding close-up performance
This new G Lens features a large F1.8 maximum aperture and 11-blade circular aperture, offering excellent close-up performance with a minimum focus distance of 0.15 m/0.5 ft and maximum magnification of 0.25x in AF mode, enabling the capture of unique wide-angle perspectives with beautiful bokeh.
Large-aperture ultra-wide performance in a compact lens
The FE 16mm F1.8 G features aspherical lens elements, including Sony’s Advanced Aspherical lens, resulting in a compact full-frame ultra-wide lens measuring 73.8 x 75 mm and weighing 304 g, while providing exceptional imaging performance for various subjects like landscapes and starry skies.
Fast, precise autofocus supports high-level imaging
Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors allow for fast and accurate autofocus and tracking. A special control algorithm improves response, reducing delay and vibration that can happen with large lenses, ensuring quiet and smooth operation. This enables the FE 16mm F1.8 G to effectively capture key moments when photographing active, fast-moving subjects.
Refined, stable performance for video
The FE 16mm F1.8 G features advanced technology that minimizes focus breathing for video, supports breathing compensation in compatible Alpha bodies, and offers in-body Active Mode stabilization for stable wide-angle shots. It also accepts 67 mm front filters and balances easily on a gimbal.
Comprehensive control and solid reliability
The device features a focus ring, focus hold button with assignable functions, aperture ring with click ON/OFF switch for versatility, and a focus mode switch for quick autofocus/manual switching, all within a dust and moisture resistant design enhanced by a fluorine coating for reliability and durability.
