Food Preview: Semarak Iftar, 2020 Ramadan dinner at Dorsett Grand Subang

It was an honour when TrendGrnd was invited to the media preview for 2020 Ramadan dinner by Dorsett Grand Subang. Themed “Semarak Iftar”, the Lower Ground level of the five-star hotel features a memorable Iftar offerings complete with lavish sumptuous spread at the all-day dining restaurant, Terazza Brasserie.

When asked about how many foods are being served, the hotel representative answered that there is over 90 dishes made in-house on rotational basis this Ramadan season. The restaurant made to resemble stalls like a Ramadan bazaar where tourist and hotel guest can experience the classic and local favourite dishes celebrating Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) national campaign.

What food is offered and how does it taste?

Well, to be honest, I’m quite overwhelmed with more than 90 dish to choose from. But let’s go through some of the menu because the local cuisine is definitely a must try when one visit the restaurant.

To start of, there are appetisers with the likes of traditional local salad or Kerabu, an assortment of Sambal and local deep fried crackers with the likes of Keropok Sotong, Keropok Ikan, Keropok Sayur, Emping Malinja and Papadom.

If you’re a fan of soup, then you will be happy to hear that the dinner provides Malay-style Mushroom Chicken Soup, Cumin infused Watercress
Cream Soup, Sup Tulang Kambing Berempah, Sup Pindang Ikan Merah, Chicken Yoke Chuk Soup, Chi Kut Teh Chicken Herbal Soup, Sup Singgang Ikan and Chicken Tom Yam Soup. The soup served at the restaurant is a must try because it is always served hot and fresh.

Outside of the restaurant also serves Sup Gear Box, Sup Campur Utara, Roasted Baby Lamb with Mandy Arabic Rice, Satay BBQ sticks, Laksa Sarawak, Penang Prawn Noodle Soup, Laksa Johor, Laksa Kedah, Kelantanese Laksam, Mee Soto Jawa, Nasi Kukus, Ayam Goreng Berempah, Pajeri Nenas or Pajeri Terung, Hati Ayam Goreng Sambal, Roti Canai, Roti Telur, Chicken Murtabak and Roti John.

I really recommend the Sup Gear Box for those who haven’t try any Malay-styled soup. The main attraction of the soup is the huge bone serving along with the soup which is taste slightly spicy and properly seasoned. The Roasted Baby Lamb with Mandy Arabic Rice is tasty and fragrant which is good for rice lover. Fried chicken lover will definitely won’t want to missed the Ayam Goreng Berempah where chicken delivered a proper seasoned with slightly herby tasting.

Bubur Lambuk

If there is a food you should really start with is the Bubur Lambuk. Dinner guest can add groundnuts, anchovies, spring onions, fried garlics and salted egg into the Bubur Lambuk. Bubur Lambuk is basically a porridge and is usually served only during Ramadan season. The taste of the porridge is amazing with the garnishings.

Other main dishes to look out for include Nasi Tomato, Daging Rendang Tok, Gulai Kawah Kambing, Stir-fried Chicken with Dried Chilli Cashew Nut, Udang Masak Cili Api, Stir-fired Kai Lan with Ikan Masin, Nasi Briyani Gam Sayur, Sambal Udang, Wok-fried Fresh Prawn Kong Poh, Kari Ikan Tenggiri, Kambing Kuzi, Braised Beef Ribeye with Mild Pepper Sauce and many more.

For dessert lovers, the dinner is also serving Onde-Onde, Badak Berendam, Tapai Pulut dan Ubi, Pulut Panggang will make for a sweet Iftar ending. Alternatively, have a bowl of refreshing Pulut Hitam Porridge, Cendol or Ais Kacang and even various assortment of ice-cream flavours.
