ASUS Republic of Gamers has unveiled the ROG Ally X, a new version of its popular ROG Ally handheld game console. Designed for Windows 11 gaming on the go, it features the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor but comes with improved storage, RAM, battery life, and an updated chassis. It is also equipped with Armoury Crate SE 1.5, a customizable game library, and unified system updates.

The ROG Ally X now features a 1 TB SSD for gaming storage, up from the original Ally’s 512 GB. The redesigned motherboard allows for easy storage upgrade to larger drives. The device also has 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM for flexibility, allowing for better performance in AAA titles. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme shares its video RAM with the system RAM, hence having larger RAM space on the Ally X will allow better performance in the next gen AAA titles. The ROG Ally X has an 80 Wh battery, double the capacity of the previous model, allowing users to game longer from the wall. Despite the battery life improvement, the ROG Ally X weighs 70 grams more than the original Ally, ensuring comfortable play and portability.

The ROG Ally X is a new gaming controller with a redesigned black chassis, deeper handles and a more rounded shape for improved comfort. The buttons and sticks are now placed in a slightly more ergonomic angle, with a slant to the triggers that makes them easier to press. It also features smaller macro buttons on the back to reduce accidental presses. The joysticks have been replaced with a more durable module, where ASUS claimed it has rated for a 5-million-cycle lifespan, with stiffer springs for a familiar response curve. The D-Pad has been improved with eight-direction input for fighting and retro games. The original XG Mobile port has been replaced with two USB-C ports, one of which is Thunderbolt-compatible, allowing for wide interoperability with third-party docks and external GPUs.

In order to accommodate the larger battery, ROG Ally X has new fans with 23% smaller blades and 50% thinner blades for improved airflow. Two tunnels direct air towards a third exhaust vent, providing 24% more air volume. This cooling system cools both internal components and the touch screen, making it up to 6°C cooler for more comfortable long-term usage.

At the time of writing, we still don’t get any confirmation on the Malaysia’s availability and pricing. Do stay tune for further details of ROG Ally X in Malaysia.
