MILO Energy for Good provides 1,000 Sets of Eco-Friendly Tables and Chairs for Schools Nationwide

For over ten years, MILO has supported school recycling through The CAREton Project, encouraging students in Malaysia to be environmentally friendly. Building on Nestlé Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability and using fully recyclable UHT beverage cartons, the MILO Energy for Good initiative turns these used cartons into useful items for schools, such as sports equipment and classroom furniture.

Now in its second year, the program has grown to over 300 schools across the country. It uses a points system to motivate students to collect and recycle used beverage cartons, which they can exchange for important school supplies. This approach links everyday recycling to real benefits, showing how working together can positively affect both schools and the environment.

In partnership with the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Tetra Pak Malaysia, the MILO Energy for Good initiative has changed from just raising recycling awareness to a practical example of a circular economy. By seeing how used cartons can be made into helpful products, students learn more about sustainability and their role in protecting the environment.

To support the schools involved, MILO is providing 1,000 sets of tables and chairs made from recycled beverage cartons to those that have shown strong participation in the program. This achievement emphasizes how responsible recycling can create valuable resources for schools while reducing waste and promoting a circular future.

Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, said: “At Nestlé, we believe sustainability should be practical, accessible and rewarding. Through MILO Energy for Good initiative, we are helping students see that every recycled beverage carton can contribute to something meaningful for their schools and communities. By encouraging students, teachers and families to make recycling part of their daily routines, we hope to inspire habits that last well beyond the classroom. This initiative goes beyond collecting cartons. It is about empowering young Malaysians to take action, work together and recognise that small efforts, when multiplied across communities, can create a meaningful impact for the environment. Together with our partners, we are turning waste into valuable resources and helping build a more sustainable Malaysia for future generations.”

Chua Chung Wei, SJKC La Salle (returning school), said, “The greatest reward has been seeing our students embrace recycling as part of their daily lives. Through MILO Energy for Good initiative, they have learned that simple actions can lead to meaningful outcomes, from supporting their school to helping the environment. Seeing products made from the cartons they collected has reinforced the value of their efforts and encouraged them to become more responsible and engaged citizens.”

Beyond recycling, the MILO Energy for Good initiative seeks to instill sustainable habits in young Malaysians by showing how small actions can have a big impact. MILO is dedicated to sustainability, going beyond just recyclable packaging or collecting beverage cartons. In partnership with the Ministry of Education, schools, and other partners, MILO is focused on helping young Malaysians develop responsible habits for a sustainable future.
