Volvo Car Malaysia has officially launched the Volvo ES90, the brand’s first fully electric sedan and assembled locally in Shah Alam. The ES90 is offers redefining premium mobility with Scandinavian design, next-generation safety, and seamless connectivity.

The Volvo ES90 is a luxurious fusion of fastback versatility and SUV spaciousness, featuring a Scandinavian interior design that provides a refined “living room” feel.
Equipped with advanced 800-volt architecture, it charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. A full charge offers a WLTP range of up to 651 km, supporting confident travel from Kuala Lumpur to Penang or Johor Bahru without range anxiety.
Viewed in profile, the Volvo ES90 stands out with its confident stance and slightly raised ride height, offering a commanding view of the road. The flowing roofline balances elegance with interior space and improves aerodynamics for better efficiency and electric range.
The front features the signature Thor’s Hammer headlight design, while the rear showcases distinctive C-shaped LED lamps and unique lighting sequences.
Customers can choose from four colours: Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Denim Blue, and Onyx Black.
Practicality is enhanced by a large tailgate hatch for easy loading, with boot space of up to 424 litres, expandable to 904 litres with the 40/20/40 rear seats down. A 27-litre front compartment is ideal for charging cables.
Inside, the emphasis is on premium comfort and authentic materials, reflecting Volvo’s Scandinavian identity. The 3.1-metre wheelbase offers ample legroom for both adults and children.
Six interior ambient lighting themes enhance well-being, paired with ventilated Nordico upholstery in Charcoal for modern comfort.
A panoramic roof with electrochromic glass provides significant UV protection, allowing passengers to customize transparency for glare reduction and privacy.
Comfort is further enhanced by a four-zone climate control system with an advanced air purifier, effectively blocking PM2.5 particulates and allergens.
The Volvo ES90 features ultra-low noise levels, making it one of Volvo’s quietest cabins, which enhances the experience of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 high-fidelity speakers and Dolby Atmos for immersive audio.
The Volvo ES90 is the first Volvo car powered by the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin computer, which can perform trillions of calculations every second. This computer processes data from cameras and radars to create a complete safety shield around the car.
Using Volvo’s Superset technology, the ES90 is designed to improve over time with regular updates that can be downloaded over the air. These updates enhance everything from energy efficiency to entertainment features, helping the car feel new for years.
The new infotainment system has Google built-in and offers features like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to many apps through Google Play. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, ensuring a smooth experience across the 9-inch driver display, head-up display, and the 14.5-inch central touchscreen.
To help with tight maneuvers, the ES90 includes a 3D surround view with a 360-degree camera system.
The car uses a lightweight 800-volt system to improve efficiency and performance, achieving a low drag coefficient of just 0.25. It does the century sprint in 6.6 seconds, balancing smoothness with quick performance.
Battery technology is a key aspect of the Volvo ES90’s sustainability. The model features 29% recycled aluminium, 18% recycled steel, and 16% recycled polymers and bio-based materials. Additionally, its interior wood panels are sourced from FSC-certified materials, reducing CO₂ emissions in production.
True to Volvo’s heritage, the ES90 is designed to protect everyone around the car. Meeting the stringent Volvo Cars Safety Standard and built on over 55 years of safety research, the ES90 signifies Volvo’s ongoing safety leadership.
It features a robust safety cage, advanced restraint systems, and optimized deformation zones. Active safety includes a suite of five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors for enhanced collision avoidance.
The ES90 also includes a driver understanding system that detects when attention lapses and provides supportive interventions. Additionally, Safe Space Technology alerts occupants of oncoming cyclists and pedestrians when parked, enhancing safety for all.
