LG’s 600kW Coolant Distribution Unit gained official NVIDIA certification

LG Electronics (LG) has received official NVIDIA certification for its 600kW Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU). This achievement confirms the reliability and efficiency of LG’s liquid cooling solutions and thermal management technology according to NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure standards, aiding the company’s growth in the AI data center cooling market.

As one of the few companies globally to pass NVIDIA’s technical verification, LG validated its 600kW CDU against over 100 criteria for cooling performance, reliability, and failover capabilities in high-density AI Factories.

This certification strengthens LG’s position as a verified NVIDIA partner for AI Factory infrastructure, enhancing confidence for global hyperscalers and data center operators by reducing procurement risks and accelerating qualification for AI infrastructure deployments.

LG’s NVIDIA-certified 600kW CDU is designed to handle the heat produced by powerful AI GPUs. It uses a Direct-to-Chip (DTC) liquid cooling method that sends coolant straight to heat-producing parts like GPUs and CPUs. This creates an efficient “hybrid cooling” system that works well with current air-cooling setups.

The unit maintains a precise temperature control of ±0.25°C*, which improves thermal stability and ensures reliable AI server performance. It also features virtual sensor technology to monitor conditions in real-time and detect leaks. When combined with LG’s Data Center Cooling Control Manager (DCCM), it allows for smart control and easy monitoring, and it connects seamlessly with data center management systems using standard communication protocols.

To guarantee reliability, LG tests these solutions at its specialized validation site in Pyeongtaek. Here, they examine how the system reacts to changes, temperature fluctuations, and stability during low loads throughout the cooling process—from the AI chip load to the CDU and chiller. By meeting NVIDIA’s strict requirements, the CDU is built to keep operating smoothly, even in tough conditions.

LG aims to strengthen its role as a reliable partner in AI data center infrastructure by providing a complete “Chip-to-Chiller” range, which offers thermal management solutions from the chip level to the cooling plant. This includes chillers that make chilled water, CDUs that distribute coolant, and cold plates that deliver cooling directly to AI chips—all essential parts of liquid cooling systems for AI data centers.

This certification marks the beginning of LG’s expansion into AI infrastructure, with plans to obtain NVIDIA certifications for its large-capacity CDU models, including 1MW, 2.5MW, and 4MW.

Leveraging 60 years of HVAC expertise, LG’s CDUs are tailored for high-density AI data centers, providing accurate temperature control and reliability. Key components are produced in-house, enhancing their competitive edge.

LG has secured major cooling projects globally, such as hyperscaler facilities in North America and the SM+ Data Center in Jakarta. By harnessing its core technologies, LG aims to grow its presence in the AI data center market.
