LG expands global advanced materials business with LG PuroTec

LG Electronics (LG) is pushing its advanced materials business forward with LG PuroTec, an antimicrobial glass powder for various B2B applications. Targeting global markets, including Asia, this innovative material has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.

At Chinaplas 2025 in Shenzhen, LG showcased PuroTec to the international market, highlighting its applicability in home appliances, construction materials, medical devices, and textiles. PuroTec can be blended into plastics, paints, and rubbers to prevent odours and contamination, maintaining effectiveness even in small quantities.

Building on its glass powder technology, LG introduced PuroTec in 2023 and is expanding into markets like China, Vietnam, and India, securing around 420 patents since 2006. Plans to showcase PuroTec in Europe and North America are underway, with a major event at K 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany, this October. Additionally, LG is developing advanced materials like Marine Glass, designed to support marine ecosystem restoration.

“We will continue to develop advanced materials that meet the evolving needs of global B2B customers,” said Baek Seung-tae, head of the LG’s Kitchen Solution Business, “These innovative solutions will enable us to expand beyond traditional home appliances and into broader, future-forward industries.”
