KAO Malaysia has partnered with the residents of Flat PKNS Taman Dato Harun, a dengue hotspot in Selangor, to combat the dengue outbreak. This initiative, in collaboration with MBPJ, Takeda Malaysia, and Impactlution, is part of the GUARD OUR FUTURE project launched by Kao Malaysia in June, coinciding with the release of the new Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum in Malaysia.
The President of KAO Malaysia, Mr. Nishimaki Akira, emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing the dengue epidemic, stating that the clean-up event was a crucial step in safeguarding the lives of Malaysians against mosquito-borne diseases.
KAO Malaysia’s GUARD OUR FUTURE project focuses on innovative product technology aimed at protecting individuals from mosquito bites. The Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum repels mosquitoes by making the skin surface unappealing to them, thus preventing mosquito bites and reducing the risk of infection. KAO Malaysia has committed to donating over 61,080 units of the product, valued at RM971,172, to match the number of active dengue cases in Selangor in 2023.
In addition to product development, KAO Malaysia is actively involved in community clean-up efforts to tackle dengue fever. Through its Kirei Lifestyle Plan (KLP) ESG strategy, KAO aims to create a sustainable environment that reduces mosquito breeding sites and promotes public health.
The recent clean-up event brought together over 100 volunteers from various organizations, including KAO Malaysia, MBPJ, Takeda Malaysia, and Impactlution. Participants were provided with tools and instructions to identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in the area.
Experts from Impactlution discussed waste management and its impact on mosquito populations, while representatives from MBPJ and Takeda Malaysia emphasized the importance of dengue education and symptom management. As part of their commitment to fighting dengue, Takeda has introduced a dengue vaccine in Malaysia and is collaborating with stakeholders to reduce the burden of the disease.
