iPhone Air unveiled with 5.6mm thickness with pro performance; goes from RM4,999 in Malaysia

Apple has officially unveiled the all-new iPhone Air, the company’s thinnest iPhone with pro performance. It features a titanium design, better durable, 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz, equipped with A19 Pro, N1, and C1X and many more.

The iPhone Air makes the head turns with 5.6mm thickness and incredibly light, with a large, stunning display. It uses the grade 5 titanium frame, with an elegant high-gloss mirror finish, and a new plateau on the back that is precision-milled on both sides to house the cameras, speaker, and Apple silicon. The plateau helps maximises space for the battery, which now offers all-day battery life. The thin design also features the Action button.

The 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display features ProMotion with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, ensuring smooth scrolling. The Always-On display shows vital information and reduces to 1Hz when inactive. With 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness, iPhone Air offers the best visibility outside.

iPhone Air also boasts a Ceramic Shield 2 front cover, providing 3x better scratch resistance and improved anti-reflection. For the first time, the Ceramic Shield protects the back as well, giving 4x better crack resistance. Together with the strong titanium frame, it enhances durability for the iPhone Air.

iPhone Air features the all-new Centre Stage front camera with a square sensor, offering a wide field of view and capturing photos up to 18MP. Users can take photos and videos in portrait or landscape while holding their iPhone vertically. For group shots, Centre Stage uses AI to expand the field of view and rotates to include everyone. The front camera enables ultra-stabilised 4K HDR video, and users can record from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously with Dual Capture. During FaceTime or third-party calls, Centre Stage keeps users stable and centered in the frame.

A versatile 48MP Fusion camera system offers users four lenses in one. The custom main lens supports popular 28mm and 35mm focal lengths, providing more framing options, while the 2.0µm quad-pixel sensor with sensor-shift OIS excels in low light. Users can get closer to their subject with the optical-quality 2x Telephoto, featuring an updated Photonic Engine for enhanced details and color.

The new image pipeline in iPhone Air allows for next-generation portraits with Focus Control, capturing depth information for later editing in Photos. It introduces the latest Photographic Styles, including a new Bright style that enhances skin tones and vibrancy.

For video, iPhone Air supports 4K60 fps Dolby Vision recording and Action mode, featuring Spatial Audio for immersive sound. Users can adjust the audio post-capture with Audio Mix and minimize wind noise.

The iPhone Air features the high-performance A19 Pro, N1, and C1X chips.

The A19 Pro boasts a 6-core CPU for enhanced performance and efficiency, making it the fastest in any smartphone. Its 5-core GPU features upgraded architecture for advanced mobile gaming, with Neural Accelerators increasing peak GPU compute by up to 3x for generative AI tasks.

The iPhone Air includes the Apple-designed N1 wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, improving features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop. It also features the C1X cellular modem, which is up to 2x faster than its predecessor, more efficient, and faster than the modem in iPhone 16 Pro, consuming 30% less energy.

iPhone Air offers excellent all-day battery life, thanks to the advanced Apple silicon and optimized software. The new Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26 learns user habits to conserve power effectively.

iPhone Air features an eSIM-only design that saves internal space, enabling a remarkably light and thin form factor. eSIM provides greater flexibility, enhanced security, and seamless connectivity compared to traditional SIM cards. Supported by over 500 carriers worldwide, including Maxis, Celcomdigi, U Mobile, and Yes, eSIM simplifies staying connected while traveling, with affordable international roaming plans and local prepaid options. Additionally, eSIM cannot be physically removed if an iPhone is lost or stolen, and managing travel eSIMs is easier with the streamlined setup in iOS 26.

iOS 26 enhances the iPhone experience with a fresh design, powerful Apple Intelligence features, and improvements to essential apps. The new Liquid Glass design makes system experiences more expressive and familiar, while Live Translation helps users communicate across languages in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone. Updates to visual intelligence allow users to capture screenshots and act on what they see. The on-device foundation model supports developers, enabling intelligent, privacy-protected apps usable offline. New screening tools for calls and messages minimize distractions, and iOS 26 adds features in CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, Wallet, and introduces Apple Games, a new app for all games.

iPhone Air will be available in four colours: space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue. Pre-orders begin Friday, September 12, with availability beginning Friday, September 19.
