One-make racing in Malaysia is growing in 2025 with the launch of the GR86 Cup Malaysia Series, featuring the new Toyota GR86 sports coupe.

Organized by Haro Sports and Entertainment Sdn Bhd, this series will debut as a support event with two 10-lap races during the Malaysian round of the 2025 SUPER GT Series from 26-28 June 2025. There will also be two more rounds later in the year: Round 2 will take place with the Malaysia Championship Series 300km race, and Round 3 will be a grand finale with an 86-lap race. All three rounds will occur at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit.
“Designed as an ultra competitive yet still affordable racing series, the GR86 Cup Malaysia Series provides enthusiasts with a platform to move up to a more powerful and dynamic vehicle while retaining the importance of a level playing field where the emphasis lies in pure driving skill,” said Haro Sports & Entertainment Managing Partner Fahrizal Hasan.

Limited to the first 30 units (on a first come, first serve basis), the new GR86 Cup cars are imported from Japan and priced at RM208,315.00 (delivered to the Petronas Sepang International Circuit), including motorsport AP and sales tax.
These cars are designed only for track use and cannot be used on public roads. The GR86 Cup cars meet the requirements for the 2025 Malaysian Championship Series SP1 category.

The GR86 Cup cars are powered by a high-revving, four-cylinder “boxer” petrol engine with a special direct and port injection system, providing a boost in power and torque. Weighing about 1290kg (with driver), the car has a 2,387 cm³ engine that produces 228 HP at 7,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 3,700 rpm. Performance is enhanced with a full exhaust system.
The power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and Torsen limited-slip rear differential. The transmission features a competition clutch and a cooler system for better performance during racing. Electronic throttle settings help improve control and response when accelerating, and the electric power steering is optimized for better handling and stability. Braking is handled by advanced four-piston calipers in the front and two-piston calipers in the rear, made from a single piece of aluminum for high performance. They use special front discs and enlarged rear discs for better stopping power.
All GR86 Cup cars are equipped with KW Racing shock absorbers for strength, along with TRD suspension bushes for precise handling. These cars use 225/45R17 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS tyres for excellent grip on corners, mounted on lightweight and strong Raxer RP10X forged alloy wheels.
For safety, the GR86 Cup car has a specially designed roll cage with additional side bars. The roll cage meets JAF domestic competition standards, using a thicker pipe for enhanced safety.
Occupant safety is further improved with fire suppression systems, a FIA approved Bride ZETA series bucket seat, and a 6-point safety harness compatible with Hans devices.
