GoRental Global played a key role in the Outdoor Expo Malaysia 2026, showing how portable battery energy systems (BESS) can effectively power one of Malaysia’s biggest outdoor events while helping to promote cleaner energy options.
The three-day event ended with GoRental achieving an Asian Record and ASEAN Record for the Largest Outdoor Exhibition Powered Entirely by Portable Battery Energy Storage Systems. This recognition was awarded to GoRental Managing Director Colin Peh by Yang Berhormat Hannah Yeoh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Federal Territories, during the closing ceremony on 9 August 2026.
Taking place from 7 to 9 August 2026 at Titiwangsa Stadium, Outdoor Expo Malaysia attracted many outdoor lovers, families, exhibitors, and industry professionals for three days filled with exhibitions, product launches, educational talks, outdoor demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
GoRental provided the temporary power infrastructure for the exhibition, allowing important facilities and activities to operate smoothly using portable battery systems instead of traditional diesel generators.
During the event, GoRental used 82 portable battery energy systems to power 48 open-air booths for 36 hours. These systems delivered about 992.16 kWh of clean energy over the three days, supplying the energy needed to run the event without relying on diesel generators.
This setup is estimated to have saved around 297.65 litres of diesel and 803.65 kg CO₂e when compared to using diesel power. The figures are based on typical diesel consumption and emissions. The systems met ISO 20121:2012, ISO 9001, CE, and SGS standards, highlighting GoRental’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability.
The deployment also showed how battery-powered energy can create quieter, lower-emission, and more inclusive event spaces. GoRental claims that its battery-powered approach can cut energy costs by up to 30% compared to traditional diesel generators.
“Outdoor Expo Malaysia was an important opportunity to demonstrate that portable battery energy storage systems can reliably support a major event while offering benefits that go beyond sustainability,” said Colin Peh, Managing Director of GoRental Global.
“Compared with diesel generators, battery systems can help reduce noise, eliminate on-site exhaust emissions and lower temporary power costs by up to 30%. This creates a cleaner and more comfortable environment for exhibitors, visitors, workers and nearby communities. We hope this project can encourage event organisers and government stakeholders to make battery-powered temporary energy a more common standard for events in Malaysia.”
For Outdoor Expo Malaysia, the deployment also provided an opportunity to demonstrate how new energy solutions can be integrated into a large-scale event without compromising operational requirements or the visitor experience.
“Running a large-scale outdoor event requires a power solution that we can depend on throughout the entire programme, so reliability was always our first consideration,” said Fathee Razali, Founder of Outdoor Expo Malaysia.
“What this deployment demonstrated is that we can achieve that reliability while also reducing noise, emissions and the operational impact associated with conventional diesel generators. If cleaner temporary power can be deployed successfully across an event of this scale, there is a real opportunity for more organisers in Malaysia to rethink how their events are powered without compromising the experience for exhibitors or visitors.”
