GMBB officially launched as Creative Community Mall in the hearts of Kuala Lumpur

GMBB has officially launched as a Creative Community Mall in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate culture, diversity, and Malaysian fellowship. The grand opening was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, with a signing ceremony witnessed by various officials at GMBB’s shared creative space, The Grey Box. Originally starting as a fashion wholesale mall, GMBB transformed into a hub for creatives to empower Malaysia’s artistic community, inspired by successful art-centric spaces abroad and the need for local creatives to thrive.

Just like a seed planted in fertile soil, GMBB aims to cultivate local talent in an ecosystem where artists of all backgrounds can collaborate and catalyse Malaysia’s creative and cultural economy. Despite initial challenges, GMBB has grown into a vibrant hub with over a hundred diverse tenants across nine floors, including artists, craft artisans, food specialists, and more. These tenants include Five Arts Centre, Fusion Wayang Kulit, Gangsapura, Museum of Picture Book Art, and independent studios run by artists on the spectrum.

GMBB offers a unique experience with galleries, bookshops, art studios, and eateries, as well as ever-changing installations and exhibitions that promise new encounters with each visit. The management team aims to continue growing and showcasing the variety of tenants to fulfill their vision of a thriving creative community that contributes to Malaysia’s tourism experience and local creative economy.

GMBB is a versatile space where communities, art enthusiasts, tourists, and visitors can explore the Malaysian creative and cultural scene together. By providing a platform for local creatives to thrive and collaborate, GMBB is helping to enrich Malaysia’s cultural landscape and forge meaningful connections within the creative community.

Collaborations with UiTM College of Creative Arts and ASWARA Department of Fine Art showcase the vibrant atmosphere at GMBB. Partnerships with archiving collective Gerimis, Borneo Laboratory, and HAUS KCH further enhance the cultural scene.

GMBB also actively supports the Think City Creative KL initiative to transform Downtown Kuala Lumpur into a creative district. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, recognizes GMBB as a model for enhancing the city’s cultural landscape and attracting diverse audiences through strategic partnerships.
