Get the best fengshui flow at home this Chinese New Year with IKEA Malaysia

Chinese New Year is about new beginnings, cleaning up, making room for new things, and getting your home ready for the year ahead. In the Year of the Horse, which is all about movement, energy, and progress, the aim is to set clear intentions: creating open spaces, smooth flow, and homes that support our daily lives.

This year, IKEA Malaysia is making Feng Shui practical and affordable with help from experts at the Joey Yap Consulting Group. They will show how small, easy changes can make a big difference, combining Feng Shui ideas with everyday IKEA home solutions that are within reach.

Here are some simple Feng Shui tips for refreshing your home this Chinese New Year, focusing on making spaces feel larger, brighter, and tidier, one easy change at a time.

Start Strong at the Entrance: Clear Space, Clear Mind

The entrance influences how you feel when entering and leaving your home, especially during Chinese New Year visits. A tidy entrance makes movement easier and gives a good first impression. Adding compact shoe storage, hooks, or a small bench can reduce clutter and support daily activities.

Let the Living Room Bring in the Harmony

The living room is a place where we share energy through conversation, relaxation, and togetherness. During the holiday season, it should be cozy enough for both lively gatherings and quiet moments. A well-planned layout helps encourage face-to-face talks, while comfy sofas and movable stools make the space flexible for guests.

Light is also important for creating a pleasant living room. Bright spaces feel more open and inviting, allowing good energy to flow throughout the home. Using different kinds of lights, like ceiling lights, floor lamps, table lamps, or candles, can brighten up the room and create a warm, festive vibe. Soft items like cushions and rugs add comfort and make the room feel welcoming.

Create Flow, Not Obstacles

In the Year of the Horse, movement is important. How we move around our homes affects how comfortable and useful they feel every day. Keeping clear paths between rooms helps create smoother routines and better energy flow.

Clearing out walkways, especially between places we share like the living and dining areas, can make a big difference. Using storage solutions that fit neatly against walls can keep spaces organized without blocking flow. Potted plants can help bring life to areas that feel dull, while curtains and blinds can control light—lighter options for brightness during the day and blackout curtains for when we need to rest.

In open spaces, simple dividers like screens or shelves can help create different areas without closing things off, helping to keep order and flow in our homes.

Chinese New Year is a time when many people naturally think about refreshing their homes,” said Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director, IKEA Malaysia. “At IKEA, we believe that creating a better everyday life at home doesn’t have to involve big changes or renovations. Through these learnings, and by applying Feng Shui principles through practical IKEA home solutions, we hope to show how simple and affordable changes can help create homes that feel more comfortable, balanced and welcoming for the year ahead.”
