Allianz Malaysia Berhad and Universiti Malaya launched the Allianz Centre for Governance (ACFG) to research governance and related areas. Located at UM’s Faculty of Business and Economics, the center aims to strengthen business integrity and support governance reforms.
The launch coincided with International Anti-Corruption Day, held at the Za’ba Memorial Library. Anusha Thavarajah, Regional CEO of Allianz Asia Pacific, emphasized the need for large organizations to lead through collaboration. UM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, highlighted that ACFG will enhance governance quality and transparency, hoping for a strong synergy between UM and Allianz Malaysia.
Before establishing the Centre, Allianz Malaysia had already implemented various measures to promote good governance and oppose unethical practices in the industry, including:
- Allianz Road Rangers: Launched in 2017, this initiative ensures a fair and transparent claims process for motor insurance customers, safeguarding them from exploitative practices and mitigating the risk of motor insurance fraud.
- Panel Workshop Revamp: In 2020, Allianz Malaysia conducted an open tender process to select authorised car repairers, enhancing transparency and service standards within the motor claims process.
- Partnership with RasuahBusters: Allianz Malaysia became a coalition partner with RasuahBusters, a grassroots movement dedicated to fighting corruption in Malaysia, further demonstrating its commitment to integrity and ethical business practices.
“With the launch of the Allianz Centre for Governance today, we are institutionalising our efforts. Research-driven solutions, informed by data and expert analysis, are more likely to lead to effective anti-corruption measures than reactive policies,” stated Sean Wang, CEO of Allianz Malaysia.
UM’s Dean, Professor Dr. Yusniza Kamarulzaman, noted that collaboration between public universities and industry can empower good governance.
The ACFG represents a three-year collaboration with UM and a milestone in Allianz Malaysia’s commitment to ethical business practices and corporate integrity.
