Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the 2026 Volkswagen Tayron, which is locally assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan. The seven-seater SUV is available in two distinct variants: the sophisticated Elegance with refined comfort and advanced technology, and the performance-driven R-Line featuring dynamic sportiness and a strong road presence. Positioned as a premium, upscale SUV between the Tiguan and Touareg, the all-new Tayron represents a brand-new chapter in Volkswagen’s SUV portfolio.
In celebration of the 69th Merdeka, the first 69 Tayron owners will receive a special package including 7 years of free maintenance, personal accident and car key coverage, and an opportunity to win a 3D/2N luxury holiday.
“By introducing our newest VW family member, we are responding to the way Malaysians are living today, and how their expectations of a vehicle continue to evolve. As people grow, so do their needs and lifestyles. The allnew Tayron is ready to be present for every stage of their lives,” said Renate Noessler, Managing Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia.
The Elegance is powered by:
• High fuel economy with a 1.5-litre eTSI mild hybrid engine producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque.
• 48-volt belt-driven starter-alternator and Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus).
With ACTplus, two of the engine’s four cylinders automatically turn off when driving at low and medium speeds. This helps improve efficiency in the active cylinders, while the inactive ones use minimal energy.
The extra power from the 48-volt system acts like a turbocharger, enhancing the eTSI engine’s performance when starting to drive. Energy is saved through recovery during slowing down and braking. Additionally, the energy stored in the battery allows the engine to turn off sometimes, enabling a smooth coasting experience, which boosts fuel efficiency.
For those who loves spirited drive, the Tayron R-Line mixes bold styling with exhilarating performance.
• A powerful 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine producing 265PS and 400Nm of torque.
• 4MOTION all-wheel drive system delivering exceptional traction, agility and driving confidence in all conditions.
Both versions come with a seven-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), which adjusts the suspension based on road conditions to provide a comfortable and stable driving experience.

The 2026 Tayron features Volkswagen’s latest SUV design as the front is bold and emphasizes the SUV’s confidence. It has a large, well-defined hood with strong lines along with the long roof line gives it a sleek look. The back also features attractive lights that match the bumpers nicely.

Sharp lines and tight body gaps highlight the Tayron’s shape, showcasing it as a strong and high-quality SUV. Each version has its own unique style while remaining true to Volkswagen’s design principles.
Elegance:
• LED Plus headlights and 3D LED taillights.
• ‘Elegance’ styling elements on the front and rear bumper.
R-Line:
• IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlights with glare-free high beam technology and 3D LED taillights with dynamic turn signals.
• Performance-inspired ‘R-Line’ styling elements on the front and rear bumper, and sides.
Both versions have a glowing Volkswagen logo in the front and back. The new Tayron comes in five colors: Nightshade Blue, Oyster Silver, Dolphin Grey, Oryx White, and Grenadilla Black.

The Tayron offers great comfort and practical use with its flexible seven-seat setup and up to 1,905 liters of storage space when the second and third rows are folded down. The second-row seats can be split in a 40:20:40 way, and the third-row seats split 50:50, making it easy to adjust for passengers or cargo. The Hands-Free Tailgate makes loading and unloading simple.

The Varenna leather front seats have 12-way electric adjustments, heating, cooling, and a 10-air-cushion massage function that can last between 10 and 30 minutes, ensuring comfort for daily drives and long trips.
The interior is enhanced by sound systems; the Elegance model has an 8-Speaker system, while the R-Line model comes with a powerful Harman Kardon system featuring 10 + 1 speakers, a subwoofer, 700 watts of power, and a 16-channel digital amplifier.

At the center of the Tayron is Volkswagen’s newest digital setup for a more connected and engaging driving experience. Both versions include a multifunction sports steering wheel with shift paddles, and a gear selector on the column that creates a cleaner console area. A new Centre Console Multi-Function Control allows easy access to driving modes, ambient lighting, and volume control with an easy-to-use rotary knob.

Connectivity is boosted with new infotainment systems: a 12.9-inch display in the Elegance and a 15-inch display in the R-Line. Both use MIB4 software and support Wireless App-Connect for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smooth smartphone integration. Both versions include the IDA voice assistant for hands-free control and a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro that provides important information right in the driver’s view. The R-Line variant also features a head-up display that shows speed, navigation details, and driver assistance alerts on the windshield.
The latest Tayron received a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, achieving top scores for its safety features: 87% for Adult Occupant Protection, 85% for Child Occupant Safety, 83% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 80% for Safety Assist.
Equipped with Volkswagen’s latest IQ.DRIVE suite of advanced driver assistance systems, the all-new Tayron is designed to provide greater confidence, convenience and peace of mind on every journey. Key features for both variants include:
• Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
• Lane Assist • Lane Change System Side Assist.

The price for the Elegance model is RM189,890. With the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which offers 5 years of free maintenance, a 5-year warranty, and 5 years of roadside assistance, the price rises to RM199,990.
