Viu Malaysia has recently launched their latest Viu Original, From Saga With Love, which streams on 21 September as it brings side-splitting journey filled with laughter and unexpected romance.
The ten-episode series, directed by Umi Salwana Omar and produced by veteran producer Lina Tan, with two new episodes to be released every Thursday. The series filming took place at Saga prefecture, located on the southern island of Kyushu in Japan. From Saga With Love has the distinction of being the first-ever Malay production to be shot in Saga, with assistance from the Saga Film Commission.
The series includes uprising talented Malaysian stars such as Siti Khadijah Halim, Sophia Albarakbah, Fimie Don and Ikmal Amry, which is set not to capture the attention of local Viu-ers but also regionally.
From Saga With Love tells the story of Karma (short for Karmila), an aspiring social media influencer who bluffs her way into becoming an interpreter for A-list actress Bianca Rozario during her trip to Saga, Japan. Determined to make the most of this opportunity, Karma must use every means necessary to avoid having her deception exposed, while simultaneously undertaking a secret task assigned by Bianca’s controlling mother, Kathy, to unravel the mysteries of Bianca’s love life. With the inclusion of Bianca’s affable videographer, Bob, and Sham, the reserved one, what results is a hilarious merry-go-round of problems, solutions, and romantic complications.
Karma is played by Siti Khadijah Halim, one of the hottest young talents in the Malaysian entertainment industry. Siti is known for her outstanding performances in Ash & Aish (2022), Sekali Lagi Cinta Kembali (2022) and Dukun Diva (2021). Recognised for her talent, Siti Khadijah has been nominated for Most Popular Actress at Anugerah Drama Sangat 2023. In addition, she was also nominated for Anugerah BBNU Wanita Popular at ABPBH 2023, reflecting her rising popularity.
Bianca Rozario is portrayed by Sophia Albarakbah. Sophia’s career highlights include acclaimed works such as Obsesi Dia (2023), Ku Akad Kau Dengan Bismillah (2023) and Ada Hantu 2 (2022). Sophia was nominated for Best Popular Actress at the Berita Harian Popular Stars Awards in 2020 and was also honoured with the prestigious Best Actress award at World Film Carnival Singapore in 2021. Her achievements continue to shine as she received the Aktres Filem Popular award at ABPBH 2023, solidifying her position as a sought-after talent in Malaysia.
Bianca’s videographer and potential love interest, Bob, is played by Fimie Don. Fimie is a familiar face to fans of local dramas, having been acting since he was a child. He was most recently seen in the Viu Original Nenek Bongkok Tiga (2023) as well as in local dramas Melur Untuk Firdaus 1 & 2 (2022, 2023) and Diari Seorang Suami (2021). Back in 2010, he won the Best Child Actor award at the Malaysia Film Festival.
Rounding off the foursome is Ikmal Amry, who plays pottery apprentice Sham. Ikmal rose to fame after participating in Hero Remaja 2017. His portrayal of Ray in the drama series Gantung (2018) garnered massive audiences in Malaysia and Indonesia. As his career continues to flourish, Ikmal Amry achieved a milestone with his latest movie, Pulau (2023), marking his international debut as he captivated audiences across Southeast Asia. Besides acting, Ikmal made a mark in fashion, modelling for renowned brands and featured in campaigns for international brands.
