Universal Music Malaysia acquires major stake in Faithful Music

Universal Music Malaysia (UMM) has bought a majority share in Faithful Music, one of the fastest-growing record labels and production houses in Malaysia. This partnership will strengthen UMM’s role as a top provider of local music and help them reach more listeners in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. UMM will also be the exclusive distributor for Faithful Music’s large music collection.

Faithful Music was started in 2015 by award-winning singer and music producer Faizal Tahir and Mike Chan. The label has helped develop artists like Santai, Alamak Raya Lagi, and Angau. The collaboration between Faithful and UMM will support both companies’ efforts to invest in Malaysia’s rising musical talent.

Additionally, this partnership will enhance Faithful Music’s abilities and create new creative and business opportunities for its artists, including unique experiences for Malaysian music fans.

“It’s incredibly exciting for Faithful Music to partner with Universal Music Malaysia,” said Faizal Tahir, Founder of Faithful Music. “This is a tremendous recognition of the importance and vitality of Malaysian songs and artists. Faithful Music was established with the belief that artists at every stage of their journey are entitled to the same high-quality opportunities to grow and succeed. We look forward to strengthening the breadth and level of service we provide to our clients working with the Universal Music team.”

“We are not only developing a partnership; this is an investment into the local music community, and is consistent with our commitment to nurture current as well as future music creators with best-in-class support. Finding partners who share our passion for making iconic songs and recordings that deliver long-term growth is essential, which is why we are pleased to be working with Faizal, Mike and their team at Faithful Music. We look forward to creating new commercial and creative opportunities for Faithful Music artists. With UMM’s plan this year to expand its positive music and children segments as well as developing its capabilities to serve as a one-stop agency for brand partners, it is the right time to embark on this next exciting chapter with Faithful Music,” said Kim Lim, Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia.

The announcement comes amidst the recent successful collaboration between UMM and Faithful Music. These include the track ‘Raya Pum Pang’ which hit more than 1 million YouTube views in its first two weeks of release, as well as “Memang Smart AYE” which includes performances by up-and-coming artists from both labels – Insomniacks, Sabronzo of DOLLA, Aziz Harun and Killa Driz. The song was featured as part of an extensive campaign a commercial jingle and music video for Samsung Malaysia.

Calvin Wong, Chief Executive Officer, Universal Music Southeast Asia & Senior Vice President of Asia commented: “It is our pleasure to welcome Faithful Music, the home of many young talented artists, to Universal Music Malaysia. I am extremely excited about the expanded role that this partnership will enable UMM to play in such a fast-growing music market, particularly in the Nusantara markets which have huge untapped potential. We look forward to working with these artists and delivering their talents to an even wider audience through our extensive network and passion both domestically and internationally.”
