Uncovering Sony Xperia 1 V’s latest camera tech, design and features in Malaysia

As we all know that Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, Xperia 1 V, is continuing to offer one the best mobile photography and videography experience but most people aren’t aware what’s behind of the device that make it so exceptionally raved about. At the recent Xperia 1 V launch event by Sony Malaysia, I was given a rare opportunity to learn more about the Xperia 1 V’s latest camera tech and design features.

Next Gen Sensor, Next Gen Imaging

This year, Xperia 1 V is going for the theme of “Next Gen Sensor, Next Gen Imaging”, where the new main camera sensor is using Sony’s latest mobile imaging technology. The all-new Exmor T for mobile image sensor (on the main camera only) has a new 2-Layer Transistor Pixel architecture which offers 2x better low-light performance and less noise for photography and videography when compared to the predecessor. The new main camera sensor is also bigger than the predecessor, offers to captures much more accurate to life photos when compared with the competition.

Apart from that, Sony also confirmed there are improvement made for the computational photography so expect better HDR and night mode photos for all the cameras.

Retains rear triple camera setup, sans 3D ToF sensor, adds new features

Sony has decided for the Xperia 1 V rear cameras will be setup with the new 48MP main camera (24mm), 12MP Ultrawide camera (16mm) and a 3.5x-5.2x 12MP telephoto camera with continuous optical zoom (85-125mm). But this year. the 3D ToF sensor has been removed from model.

But its not the new main camera hardware that’s getting updates, Sony has added even more features for the camera experience. Firstly, now the all the 3 rear lens can shoot up to 4K 120fps HDR video, which will be a good news for content creator and filmmakers. Those who love photography, all the 3 rear lens can shoot up to 30fps, making it a versatile mobile photography to capture fast moving subjects. Not only that, Sony has elected to add the Improved AF tracking capability, allowing users to have better focus on their subject. For those who prioritised on content creation, the Xperia 1 V has the new Voice Priority microphone (located at the rear camera bump) which helps capture better audio when facing your subject and Product Showcase mode that helps reviewers to focus on their review product when appear in front of the lens.

Get the cinematic feel with S-Cinetone for mobile

A new feature that is available on the Xperia 1 V is Sony’s iconic video setting, the S-Cinetone for mobile. This feature allows creator to create cinematic vibes with natural skin tone video. Best of all, you don’t really need to perform any colour grading when using the S-Cinetone for mobile. This will certainly help creators to elevate their content delivery and offer professional content delivery, just at your fingertips, at anytime and anywhere with the Xperia 1 V.

Sony still retains the Creative Look profile for still and videos. There are 6 profiles to choose from so users can experiment which one suits their creative flair.

Better stereo speakers and retains 3.5mm headphone jack

According to Sony, they have added the new Amplifier with full-stage stereo speakers for the Xperia 1 V, offering wider dynamic sound. The Xperia 1 V also support Hi-Res Audio, Hi-Res Audio Wireless, LDAC, DSEE Ultimate, Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio. Not to forget to mention, the Xperia 1 V is one of the flagship smartphone in 2023 that still offers a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Improved heat management

As most content creator takes a long period to produce their content, Sony understand that their device has to withstand with the heat produced by the device. This year’s Xperia 1 V is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and gets a new improved heat management to sustained a longer performance for the user. Sony is claiming the improved heat management offers approximately 60% more heat diffusion sheet volume, which translates that the device should provide even better heat management than the predecessor. This also helps for mobile gamers who are playing for long period to get uninterrupted gaming performance.

Don’t be fool with the looks, there’s new design features and utilities

To an unaware consumer that didn’t know much about the Xperia 1 V but has been an avid follower of the Xperia 1 Series, they might think the phone still retaining with the same looks. Sony has actually added new design features, albeit you have to feel it. Firstly, the glass back cover now has a new functional tactile texture which helps with gripping the phone. Also, the glass back cover is using the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and the front is using the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The dedicated shutter button is retain for the series help enthusiast and professional to feel like they are shooting on a proper camera.

The Xperia 1 V also retains the finger removable sim card slot from the predecessor which supports dual sim card or single sim and Micro SD card. Two new features has finally make its way on to the Xperia 1 V, the Qi wireless charging and battery share (wireless) will offer users the best form of going wireless to charge the smartphone and charging other electronic device that supports wireless charging.

Sony Malaysia has announced the official price for the Xperia 1 V which goes for RM6,399 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The Malaysia market will offer two colour options to choose from – Black and Khaki Green.
