Unboxing – Like most Samsung flagship, no charger provided

The Flip3 comes in a simple and compact packaging box. The version I have is the Lavender hence you can noticed the purple motif on the box. Cut the seals and you’re treated with Flip3, a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable, warranty card, guides and sim ejector tool. In case if you’re aren’t aware, most Samsung flagship models will not be providing a charger because of the company’s sustainability movement.

First Impression – You’ll be impressed how a flagship smartphone can be compact

After you unwrapped the plastics on the device, you’ll definitely be marveled by the design of the Flip3. The front and back cover of the Flip3 received a new updated design look which is quite contemporary and stylish at the same time. Thanks to the dual tone effect and new rear camera module design, it sparks a bold design which you can’t find on most modern smartphone.

Whether its in fold or unfold position, the Flip3 grips so effortlessly because of the compact and lightweight design. The Flip3 body has a new material called Armor Aluminum which provides 10% better protection and it does give the device a sturdy device. Also, new for the Flip3 is water resistance thanks to the new IPX8 rating.

The Lavender colour looks stunning as you notice the color motif going all the way on the body to the sides, buttons, hinge and the USB Type-C port as well.

The device also feels snappy thanks to the Snapdragon 888 and 8GB RAM. You are getting a flagship performance on a clam shell/flip phone which is quite a rare thing for modern smartphone standards.

There are two display on the phone which Samsung has brought some updates to it. First, the cover display is much larger with a 1.9 inch Super AMOLED screen. You can see more for when notifications pop-out and it’s easier to scroll as well. The 6.7 inches Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X receives a 120hz refresh rate and 1200 nits brightness update. Scrolling social media and viewing videos is more immersive on the Flip3.

The speakers on the device is stereo speaker setup and it’s quite loud with good bass effect. Together with Dolby Atmos, you’re getting even better immersive sound experience with the speakers or the new Galaxy Buds2.

In terms for the camera, some early tryout shots on the rear cameras looks really good. Both 12MP main camera and 12MP ultrawide camera just deliver amazing picture quality. The rear cameras has received an updated Corning Gorilla Glass with DX lens which really with better picture quality. You also can use the rear cameras when folded however photos will be in square format only(which is good for Instagram posting). For the 10MP selfie camera, it does a good job but you definitely prefer the rear cameras’ photo quality.

You can shoot videos up to 4K 60fps on the main camera and selfie camera. The ultrawide camera can record videos up to 4K 30fps. Video quality really looks good as you can directly post them to social media sites with minimal edit.

The 3300mAh battery can be charged back quick as it supports 15W Fast charging and 10W wireless charging.

Final verdict

This is a first time where I really recommend anyone to get the smartphone after my first impression. The Flip3 packs so much performance while being stylish and compact, making it really easy to recommend anyone who wants to get a modern clam shell/flip phone right now.
