If you’ve been eyeing for the Samsung Galaxy S22+ in Malaysia and couldn’t make up your mind, then you have landed the right place to help you to make a decision. In this article, we’re going to unbox and give our first impression on the Samsung Galaxy S22+ (Malaysia Unit) and what you can expect from the device. Let’s start.
Unboxing – As usual with Samsung’s sustainability effort

When you first get the device, you will noticed the packaging is slim with the prominent “S” colour matching to your device. For my review unit, it was green, so you can noticed the design element.
Once you have opened the packaging, you will get the S22+, paper works, sim card slot ejector and a USB Type-C to Type-C cable for file transfer and charging. So, there are no charger provided and minimalistic packaging because of Samsung’s sustainability effort. Pretty much straight forward, eh?
The Galaxy S22+ – Striking the balance for everyone needs

Let’s learn what’s new for the Galaxy S22+ design. Although the Galaxy S22+ is using similar design to its predecessor Galaxy S21 series, there are some subtle changes. Firstly, the back cover is using a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ which has frosted and matte look, making finger prints and other smudges less noticeable. Secondly, the newly side Armor Aluminum frame is kind of flatted when compare to S21 series which gives a sharper feel while giving an extra of 10% in durability. Last but not least, the device now doesn’t come with screen protector as the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ is good to protect from scratches and drop. By the way, the phone is just weight at 195g which is just the good enough for everyone to hold the device.

As for the specs, S22 series will be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip in Malaysia. The S22+ comes with 2 variants: 8GB with 128GB ROM (this review unit) and 8GB with 256GB ROM. Though Samsung never advertised it, but the S22 series actually has RAM Plus feature so you can extend the RAM space for more smoother experience.
For the masses, the specs is fast for any demanding task they required to use on a smartphone, however, I do recommend to get the 8GB with 256GB ROM as I felt the 128GB internal storage can filled up quickly if you’re constantly shooting 4K videos and saving everything on your phone. There is no expansion slot here.

The display is a 6.6 inches Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The display is also HDR10+ and brightness can peaked out at 1750 nits. The display is great as you can expect from Samsung’s display technology quality and durability. There is a stereo speaker setup here so you can enjoy music and movies on the go.

As for the camera department, Samsung has upgraded the main camera to a 50MP sensor. The photos sure look sharper but more on that in the full review article. The telephoto camera also receives an upgrade to a 10MP 3x optical zoom. The 10MP 3x optical zoom telephoto camera provides a better photo quality when compared to last year S21’s 64MP telephoto camera which uses digital crop to produce the zoom. The ultrawide camera is still using a 12MP sensor and it practically work faultless for wide landscape shots. The selfie camera also retains the 10MP camera which also work faultless for selfie photos. For video recording, the main camera can shoot up to 8K 24 fps while the rest can shoot up to 4K 60fps. The cameras is really impressive in videos as other flagships couldn’t provide 4K video recording for their selfie camera.

The battery is now using a 4500 mAh that supports Fast charging 45W. In order to get the Fast charging 45W feature, you need to purchase the new 45W charger by Samsung. The phone also offer wireless charging 15W and reverse wireless charging 4.5W.
Overall, the phone really strike a balance for everyone who looks for a premium flagship smartphone in 2022. However, this is just a first impression for the Galaxy S22+. The full review will be coming up soon.
We would like to thanks Samsung Malaysia for providing the review unit. However, this is not a paid content so there is no creative input nor final approval.
