Unboxing – Eco-sustainability packaging comes to Galaxy A series now
The packaging for the Galaxy A53 5G is following Samsung’s latest sustainability effort which means one thing, no charging adapter. Once you have unsealed the packaging, you will get the device, paperwork, sim card tray ejector tool and a USB-Type C to USB-Type C cable for data transfer and charging.
Once you unwrapped the phone, you will noticed the phone does not have screen protector applied. So, if you’re planning to get the device and has clumsy hands like me, prepared to get a screen protector and casing to keep it protected.
First Impression – Looks similar to A52 but packs with better upgrades and features
Now, once you start pickup the Galaxy A53, you will noticed the phone’s design is similar to last year’s Galaxy A52 series. In my opinion, it is a good thing as the design still looked trendy and nice to hold. While it is still using plastic back cover and glass on the front, the glass on the front is using Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which will help users to withstand scratches and drops much more better. By the way, the phone has IP67 rating for water and dust proof.
Now let’s dive down on the specs for the Galaxy A53 5G in Malaysia. It is powered by the latest Exynos 1280 (all markets) and paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. You can expand the RAM and memory storage via RAM Plus up to 8GB RAM and using up to 1TB microSD card respectively. For every day use, the specs here are good enough to take on your daily task.
The device is running Android 12 with One UI 4.1 out of the box which means you’re getting the latest Android experience. On the battery department, a 5,000 mAh battery with up to 25W fast charging will help you last through a day of work and leisure.
For the display, it uses a 6.5 inches Super AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate. The display offers great brightness and colours while offering a silky and fluid scrolling action. For the audio, you get a stereo speaker setup which sounded pretty loud and good. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack but you can always pair it with Galaxy Buds2.
The cameras on the Galaxy A53 features a quad rear camera setup (64MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, 5MP Macro camera and 5MP depth sensor) and a 32MP selfie camera.
Photos taken are looking good which could nearly rival with some flagship smartphone especially for the main camera. Ultrawide and macro camera perform quite good too. Selfie camera also looks good too.
In the videography, the Galaxy A53 can take 4K 30fps videos with the main camera, ultrawide, selfie camera. However, EIS only available on 1080p videos so you need to choose video quality or stabilisation. Video quality is quite good for vlogging and social media post. If you need 60 fps video, it is available on 1080p video format.
First impression verdict – New specs and features offer better value despite lacking on certain things
Overall, the new specs and features on the Galaxy A53 5G offer a similar experience like its Galaxy S siblings. Yes, some things may have been removed like the adapter, screen protector and 3.5mm headphone jack but it still offers a solid experience for a mid range smartphone.
