With this performance, the total year-to-date sales as of August 2023 is now at 67,283 units compared to 61,639 units for year-to-date sales in the same period last year. This marks a 9.2% year-on-year rise in year-to-date sales for the first eight months of the year, while the monthly sales achieved in August 2023 also rose by 13% year-on-year.

Toyota also further strengthened its portfolio offerings with the dual launch of exciting upgrades to the Toyota Corolla lineup, comprising the Corolla GR Sport variant and 2023 Corolla IMP (improvement) model. Starting from RM152,800, the Corolla GR Sport amplifies driving pleasure for enthusiasts seeking a sporty driving experience distinguished from other Corolla variants. Meanwhile, the 2023 Corolla IMP model, priced at RM139,800 onwards, introduces a wave of enhancements that underscore Toyota’s commitment to delivering exceptional driving experiences.

The Hilux, Fortuner and Innova range also received updates in September. Namely, the Hilux GR Sport received a power bump to 224PS and 550Nm of torque, making it the most powerful pick-up in its class. The Tailgate Assist is also made a standard feature for the Hilux GR Sport, Rogue, and 2.4V variants. Customers who purchase the Hilux, Fortuner and Innova will now get RFID tags as standard for all variants.

“In line with Toyota’s overarching vision to ’Move Your World’, we have maintained and strengthened our commitment to meet diverse customer needs by offering car models with features that resonate deeply with our Malaysian customers. In this, we are expanding our portfolio with vehicles that enrich the driving experience in every way – exemplified by the newly-launched Corolla GR Sport and 2023 Corolla IMP models, as well as feature updates for our Hilux, Fortuner and Innova range. In addition, we are maintaining our programmes that make owning a Toyota more accessible and convenient than ever,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

Excitement that resonates

In August 2023, the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup Malaysia 2023 brought excitement to the simulator racer scene in a grand finale that saw the participation of professional real-world racers, celebrities and first-timers, in front of an audience of more than two million online viewers across three days.

In the main event, Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira emerged as the champion, becoming the most decorated GR GT Cup Malaysia racer since the event was first introduced in 2018. Dhanesh Wigneswaran and Chong Kai Chang finished in second and third places overall respectively, whereby the trio will represent Malaysia at the GR GT Asia Pacific qualifier for the GR GT World Cup. A total of RM90,500 was up for grabs in the tournament, with the RM25,000 first prize being the biggest ever prize money to be offered since the event kicked off six years ago.

Also on the sporting front, the Toyota Tour continued with its seventh leg via the Corolla Cross Cup. Gavin Green won the competition in a performance that showed his class as Malaysia’s top professional golfer, easily overcoming the challenge from Paul San who was co-leader with him after two rounds. In the final result, Paul shared second place with Nicholas Fung. Meanwhile, amateur Liyana Durisic won the Ladies championship, defeating Aretha Pan and taking home the Best Ladies Amateur title while Aretha received the Best Ladies Professional title. The Best Men’s Amateur title was won by Marcus Lim. The Men’s Professional won RM180,000, while the Ladies’ Professional winner received RM30,000. The Toyota Tour will continue with the Camry Cup at Forest City in Johor on 3 to 5 October 2023.

In the same month, the Toyota Eco Youth Challenge – one of Toyota’s major Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, returned with a goal to cultivate environmental awareness and instil love and care for the environment among youths. Themed “Environmental Challenge” this year, the six-month long TEY 2023/2024 nationwide inter-school competition offers 16 teams nominated by their respective State Education Departments a platform to creatively tackle environmental issues within their communities, while collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders. The teams are tasked with identifying an environmental problem within their respective communities and propose a solution, while utilising Toyota’s 8-Step Problem Solving Methodology. Offering a RM77,000 Cash Prize Pool this year, the TEY has been running annually since 2001, co-organised by UMW Toyota Motor in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

UMW Toyota Motor celebrated Merdeka month with the continuation of their promotion offering a brand-new Toyota with up to 100% loan. Customers can opt for a low instalment plan option from as low as RM628 a month for a Toyota Yaris, while buyers who choose a new Toyota Camry can enjoy up to RM10,000 cash rebate. In addition, the company also released its National & Malaysia Day 2023 film featuring interviews with children playing the roles bZ4X, Innova Zenix and Corolla Cross Electric Hybrid, sharing their opinions on Malaysia’s unique identity and the future of the nation.

“August was truly an exciting month for us where we showed our deep involvement across multiple aspects of Malaysian society, with sporting events in motoring and beyond, a competition that involves youths in solving pressing global problems at the grassroots level, and activities that celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day. We are very much a part of this nation and remain committed to contributing to society at large,” said Datuk Ravindran K.
