U Mobile has launched ULTRA5G, its new brand for 5G services at Berjaya Times Square (BTS), its headquarters. The name ULTRA5G was chosen to highlight on U Mobile’s commitment to ultra-fast speeds, ultra-reliable connectivity, and ultra-wide coverage.
U Mobile users at BTS can now see an ULTRA5G identifier on their devices, thanks to the telco’s In-Building Coverage (IBC). This is an important step in U Mobile’s plan to provide reliable 5G coverage indoors and outdoors.
The ULTRA5G experience uses smart, top-quality network technology to fulfill Malaysia’s digital needs. To show how powerful ULTRA5G is, U Mobile presented several demonstrations, including Malaysia’s first-ever 4K livestream of a 800-meter roller coaster ride at Berjaya Times Square Theme Park. This ride is the longest multi-inverted indoor ride in Asia and lasts about two and a half minutes. The livestream demonstrated how well ULTRA5G covers the whole building and kept a steady connection even when the roller coaster reached speeds of 70 km/h.
In addition to the livestream, U Mobile also offered a mixed-reality experience and a demonstration of 5G network slicing, showing how different services can perform reliably and efficiently.
“U Mobile is proud to launch ULTRA5G, our brand new name for our 5G experience that is supported by our next gen network. As the nation’s newest 5G network provider, U Mobile is focused on enabling digital transformation for consumers and businesses alike. ULTRA5G brings enhanced digital experiences, from ultra-reliable streaming and immersive gaming to high-quality video calls in crowded areas. For enterprises, ULTRA5G opens doors to advanced use cases like XR, robotics, smart cities, and IR 4.0 automation. With deployment ahead of schedule, U Mobile is also doubling down on indoor coverage to ensure the widest and deepest 5G experience in Malaysia,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
Apart from Berjaya Times Square, the telco’s 5G network now covers Penang Bridge 1, with just two towers providing seamless connectivity for commuters.
The event marks the start of U Mobile’s 5G network deployment, targeting 80% coverage of populated areas by the second half of 2026. U Mobile will provide updates on ULTRA5G availability, focusing on strategic locations like airports, hospitals, and convention centres nationwide, aligned with its commitment to the widest and deepest 5G network in Malaysia.
