UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), has announced the 30 schools shortlisted for Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) 2025 following a substantial response from secondary schools nationwide. This initiative encourages schools in Malaysia to transform their ideas into actionable projects for a sustainable future. The TEY 2025 program received over 120 entries from secondary students, showcasing their potential to effect positive change in their communities.
Driving Environmental Action Through Practical Skills
Building on Toyota’s structured thinking, TEY participants are equipped with the 8-Step Problem-Solving Methodology (PSM). During the Official Launch and PSM Workshop from 28–30 April 2025 at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam, students and teacher-advisors gained essential tools and mentorship to turn ideas into real-world action.
At the launch, each of the 30 selected schools received a RM3,000 grant (totaling RM90,000) to initiate impactful sustainability projects that deliver tangible community and environmental benefits.
Comprehensive and Holistic Evaluation Criteria
Projects will be evaluated across 4 key dimensions to ensure balanced, real-world impact:
- On-Site Judging (40%): Practical execution and effectiveness of project implementation at the school or community site.
- Presentation of Project (20%): Quality, clarity, and persuasiveness of project storytelling and analysis.
- Exhibition (20%): Creativity, interactivity, and visual presentation of the project in an exhibition format.
- Social media/Community Engagement (20%): Outreach efforts to engage, educate, and mobilize the broader community through both online and offline initiatives.
After the on-site project evaluations, only the Top 15 schools will advance to the grand finals, where they will compete based on their presentations and exhibitions to vie for the grand prizes.
Community-Centered, Future-Driven Mobility
At Toyota, moving your world means inspiring action and empowering communities for a better tomorrow. Through TEY, students learn to tackle environmental challenges and help build stronger, sustainable communities. Their dedication shows the spirit of movement and progress that Toyota values: turning small actions into lasting change.
“With their passion and the right tools in hand, these young changemakers are no longer just imagining a better world — they are building it. Through Toyota Eco Youth, we are proud to be part of their journey as they move their world toward lasting, sustainable impact,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.
