Sun Life Malaysia’s InsureLit Youth Programme 3rd edition preps 800 TVET Learners with financial awareness

Sun Life Malaysia has partnered with the Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) and Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik dan Kolej Komuniti (JPPKK) to launched the third edition of its InsureLit Youth Programme, expanding its reach to 800 polytechnic students across the Klang Valley.

Now in its third year, the programme is part of Sun Life Malaysia’s InsureLit Campaign, aimed at enhancing Malaysians’ financial awareness. It has impacted students from school to university, now expanding to polytechnic institutions.

This year, students from Politeknik Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Politeknik Banting Selangor, and Politeknik Metro Kuala Lumpur will participate in a three-stage learning journey from July to September. This includes workshops, interactive board games, online assignments, and a virtual hunt, focusing on practical financial knowledge, protection awareness, and decision-making skills in preparation for the workforce.

The expansion to polytechnic students highlights the importance of financial literacy as a life skill for Malaysia’s future TVET talent. With TVET enrolment at 459,558, there’s growing recognition of it as a preferred educational pathway among young Malaysians.

As Malaysia strengthens its technical and vocational education, TVET learners will require technical skills alongside the ability to manage finances, protect against financial risks, and build long-term resilience.

Speaking at the programme’s opening session at Polytechnic Banting Selangor, Azam Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Life Malaysia Takaful, said: “Financial education should reach every young Malaysian, regardless of their educational pathway. By bringing the programme to polytechnic students, we are supporting the development of a more future-ready TVET talent pipeline. Beyond technical and vocational skills, students also need practical financial knowledge to manage their income, understand financial protection, navigate risks and build the confidence needed to participate meaningfully in the workforce and entrepreneurial economy.”

Azman Hasim, Chief Executive Officer of the Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) said: “Financial capability is a critical life skill that should be nurtured from an early age. As young people face increasingly complex financial decisions involving digital transactions, credit, fraud risks and income management, it is imperative that they are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to make informed and responsible financial choices. Through this collaboration with Sun Life Malaysia and JPPKK, AKPK remains committed to advancing financial literacy and empowering more youths to build healthy financial habits, strengthen their financial resilience, and achieve greater financial well-being throughout every stage of life.”

Ts. Ibrahim Bin Burhan, Director of Politeknik Banting Selangor said: “Preparing students for the future goes beyond equipping them with technical knowledge and industry skills. Financial capability is an equally important life skill that enables young people to make responsible financial decisions and navigate an increasingly complex financial environment. This collaboration with AKPK, Sun Life Malaysia and JPPKK complements our efforts to produce graduates who are not only career-ready, but also financially resilient.”

The InsureLit Youth Programme, launched in 2024, initially reached over 1,000 school children aged 9 to 11 in its first year. In 2025, it expanded to more than 600 university students and has now included polytechnic students. This expansion aims to enhance access to practical financial education and support Malaysia’s goal of developing a skilled and future-ready workforce.
