Sony unveils Alpha 7 V and FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II

Sony Electronics has launched the Alpha 7 V, featuring the new partially stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with approximately 33.0MP. The BIONZ XR2 image processing engine integrates AI functions from the latest α (Alpha) series, enhancing performance in Real-time Recognition AF, Real-time Tracking, color accuracy, still capture, and video versatility.

Additionally, Sony introduces the FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II (SEL28702), a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens that works with the Alpha 7 V’s fast continuous shooting.

The Alpha 7 V features an integrated AI processing unit within the BIONZ XR2 engine, enhancing autofocus speed, accuracy, and reliability. It boasts a 30% improvement in Real-time Recognition AF, allowing for high precision in subject tracking with 759 phase-detection points and 94% frame coverage, even in low-light conditions down to EV -4.0. High-resolution RAW processing is supported via the Imaging Edge Desktop app for exceptional post-production flexibility.

The Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, combined with the BIONZ XR2 processor, provides high image quality and minimal distortion thanks to its 4.5 times faster readout speed.

With up to 60 times AF/AE calculations per second and blackout-free continuous shooting at 30 fps, it excels in capturing fast-moving subjects in wildlife and sports photography. The camera offers high-speed continuous shooting at 30 fps even during 14-bit RAW shooting.

The Pre-Capture function records up to 1 second before the shutter is pressed, ensuring decisive moments are not missed, especially with unpredictable movements.

Engineered for maximum creativity, the Alpha 7 V offers up to 16 stops of dynamic range, capturing amazing detail in both bright and dark areas. Even in scenes with strong contrasts, it shows smooth transitions from dark to light.

The new AI-powered Auto White Balance (AWB) uses advanced analysis to ensure consistent colors. It accurately identifies the light source in your shooting environment and adjusts the colors automatically, making them look more natural and saving time in post-production.

Expanding creative options for hybrid creators, the Alpha 7 V offers new 4K recording modes, including 7K oversampled 4K at 60 frames per second in full-frame mode and 4K at 120 frames per second in APS-C mode/Super 35mm. This gives rich, detailed footage and great flexibility for editing.

The camera captures fine details with full pixel readout, avoiding pixel binning for high-quality video.

Its Dynamic Active Mode provides image stabilization for smooth, steady video recording even when held by hand. Users can create high-quality videos for vlogs, projects, or family moments.

The Auto Framing feature helps keep subjects well-composed during recording using AI-powered subject recognition, ensuring stable composition in various scenes.

Additionally, new noise reduction and better internal microphone capabilities improve audio quality by reducing unwanted background noise and keeping sound natural.

The Alpha 7 V is designed for efficiency with Wi-Fi 6E GHz for stable wireless transmission and dual USB Type-C ports for enhanced workflow. It features vertical format support and an adjustable electronic shutter sound for adaptability in various environments.

The 4-axis multi-angle monitor allows for unrestricted horizontal and vertical adjustment, providing greater shooting freedom. An improved grip design enhances comfort, stability, and control during extended use. The 3.68 million-dot Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder ensures clarity across various shooting environments, with adjustable brightness and colour temperature for optimum viewing, and options for a frame rate of [Standard] (60 fps) or [High] (120 fps).

The Alpha 7 V offers upgraded power management and enhanced stamina for longer shooting sessions. The Monitor Low Bright mode further extends battery life, while improved thermal management supports extended 4K recording with about 630 shots using the viewfinder per CIPA standards.

FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II – The All-Around Lens

Compact and lightweight, the FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II is engineered for the Alpha 7 V sensor’s continuous shooting capabilities. This lens provides up to 120 fps AF/AE tracking, seamless body-lens stabilization, AF during zooming, and built-in breathing compensation. It delivers smooth responsiveness for dynamic action shots, fast-paced events, and high-quality video capture.
