Sony has recently announced the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (SEL85F14GM2), a premium lens that offers a perfect combination of high resolution and beautiful bokeh with fast autofocus in a compact body. This second-generation lens inherits the praised optical design from the first-generation model and incorporates the latest technology, making it an ideal choice for various creative uses such as portraiture, wedding, travel, and cinematic video when paired with Sony’s Alpha series cameras.
The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II boasts high optical performance and stunning bokeh, making it perfect for portrait photography. With advanced optical design and elements including two XA and two ED lenses, aberrations are effectively suppressed, resulting in outstanding image quality. Sony’s Nano AR Coating II technology reduces flare and ghosting for clear, crisp images, while the 11-blade circular aperture creates the signature soft bokeh of the G Master series.
The lens features fast, precise, quiet autofocus and high tracking performance, making it up to 3 times faster for stills compared to the previous model. Its AF is able to keep up flawlessly with the Alpha 9 III’s continuous shooting capabilities and subject tracking performance is vastly improved.
In terms of design, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is lightweight and stylish without compromising on performance. It is approximately 20% lighter and 13% smaller than the previous model, achieved through the latest mechanical technology and design. The lens also includes features for effective cinematic creation, durability with a fluorine coating on the front lens element, and dust and moisture resistance for reliability in challenging conditions.
The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II will be available in Malaysia from September 2024 with a suggested retail price of RM8,999.
