Sony has launched the FE 50-150mm F2 GM, the first telephoto zoom lens with a 150 mm focal length and F2 aperture, combining 50mm at the wide-angle end with high resolution akin to a prime lens, ideal for various shooting scenarios. As part of the G Master series, it offers exceptional resolution and beautiful bokeh, enhancing professional imaging with Sony Alpha cameras.
The FE 50-150mm F2 GM lens is designed for exceptional image quality with two XA elements, two Super ED glass elements, and three ED elements to suppress aberrations across its zoom range. It features a floating focusing system with a minimum distance of 0.4m and a 0.20 magnification for detailed shots.
Its constant F2 aperture produces smooth bokeh, making it ideal for portrait and event photography. An 11-blade circular aperture enhances the lens’s bokeh effect and ensures cinematic clarity in video shooting.
Additionally, Sony’s “Nano AR Coating II” significantly reduces ghosting and flare, providing clear imagery even in backlit situations.
Measuring approximately 200 mm (7-7/8 inches) in length and weighing about 1,340g (47.3 ounces), the FE 50-150mm F2 GM is remarkably portable given its wide zoom range and bright aperture. Its internal zoom design ensures balanced length and weight for handheld or gimbal use, making it a versatile, all-in-one solution for a standard 50mm to 150mm telephoto range.
Equipped with four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and Sony’s advanced control algorithms, the FE 50-150mm F2 GM delivers fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus (AF). This high-performance AF system is compatible with Sony’s Alpha 9 III, supporting continuous shooting at up to 120 frames per second with full AF/AE tracking. With a fast AF system and a versatile 50-150 mm zoom range, the lens excels at capturing fast-paced indoor sports, portraits and events.
The FE 50-150mm F2 GM lens is designed for filmmakers, minimizing focus breathing and supporting Sony’s Breathing Compensation on select Alpha cameras. It features Linear Response MF for precise manual focus and an internal zoom design for stability on gimbals. The XD linear motors operate quietly, ensuring minimal noise during recording.
This robust lens is dust- and moisture-resistant, with a fluorine coating on the front element that repels contaminants, making it easy to clean and maintain in tough conditions.
Availability
The FE 50-150mm F2 GM (SEL50150GM) will be available in Malaysia in May 2025.
