Sapporo Malaysia celebrates 150 Years as the Iconic First Beer of Japan with special can design and immersive brand experience

Behind every Sapporo beer and manga illustration is a strong commitment to quality and craftsmanship. As Sapporo celebrates 150 years as Japan’s First Beer, Carlsberg Malaysia brings this spirit to life with special manga-inspired cans and exciting experiences in Malaysia that honor Sapporo’s brewing history since 1876.

Central to the celebration is a special can designed with famous Japanese manga artist Hiroki Ishizawa. It features Seibei Nakagawa, the founder of Sapporo, showcasing the dedication to Japanese craftsmanship and quality. His adventurous spirit and commitment to brewing led to the creation of an amazing beer. The manga-inspired designs on these collectible cans tell Sapporo’s 150-year story, highlighting Japanese culture and creativity.

Consumers can explore Sapporo’s rich history through a unique manga-inspired anniversary experience. Discover the journey of Japan’s First Beer at https://www.sapporobreweries.com/brands/spb/150th/en/.

“In Malaysia, consumers are increasingly drawn to premium brands that offer more than quality alone, brands with a strong identity, authentic stories and experiences that feel meaningful. The Sapporo limited-edition series brings the brand’s story to life for consumers here, honouring its heritage as the Iconic First Beer of Japan while strengthening its relevance among discerning beer consumers,” said Stefano Clini, Managing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia.

While the anniversary celebrates Sapporo’s history, it also lets people enjoy Japanese craftsmanship in a fun way. On Sapporo’s website, https://www.sapporobeermy.com/, users can upload a photo and see themselves as a manga character, inspired by Japanese art. The first 1,500 people to join will get a free personalized manga lanyard delivered to them. After all the lanyards are gone, participants will receive a RM10 Shopee e-voucher for their next purchase of Sapporo Premium Beer.

Additionally, Sapporo is bringing its anniversary celebrations to the Klang Valley with various lifestyle events. Starting with exciting experiences at Plaza Arkadia, Desa ParkCity from July 24 to 26, 2026, and Pavilion Bukit Jalil from July 31 to August 2, 2026, the celebrations will continue at ING Live Kuala Lumpur. Here, visitors can explore Sapporo’s 150-year story through manga-inspired displays, capture special moments at an AR photobooth, and try fun activities based on Japanese brewing.

At ING Live Kuala Lumpur, guests can test their skills in the Samurai Slash Challenge and learn the ‘Perfect Pour’ beer-tapping technique, highlighting the art of Sapporo’s brewing. To add to the excitement, the top spender at ING Live Kuala Lumpur will win a RM30,000 trip for two to Sapporo, Japan, to explore the city where Sapporo began.

The celebration is also happening at select super-hypermarkets across Peninsular Malaysia, where shoppers can join the Samurai Slash Challenge and get personalized manga lanyards with Sapporo product purchases, while supplies last.

Look out for Sapporo’s limited-edition 150th Anniversary pack, which includes eight special cans and an exclusive anniversary glass inspired by Mount Yotei in Hokkaido, the home of Sapporo Premium Beer, available for a short time only.
