Samsung’s Solve For Tomorrow Campaign won Silver in 2021 PR Awards

In 2020, Samsung’s Solve For Tomorrow campaign was held in Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore under the theme, “Empowering the Youth of Today to Solve For Tomorrow”. Although the pandemic may have caused some obstacles, the campaign was awarded Silver in the Best Corporate Strategy category at the 2021 PR Awards.

Samsung’s Solve For Tomorrow’s submission for the awards was a joint effort from Samsung’s subsidiaries in Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore. For Malaysia, the 2020 Solve For Tomorrow campaign was organised by Samsung Malaysia Electronics in partnership with Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre. The competition was open to Form 1 and Form 2 students from participating secondary schools that are engaged by Universiti Malaya STEM Centre. The competition included a Design Thinking workshop that focused on developing creativity and empathy to encourage ideation and active problem solving. Each entry into the competition was assessed on innovation and creativity, relevance to local problems and practicality.

The 2020 Malaysia winners were Team A.I.R. from SMK Seksyen 10 Kota Damansara who developed a solution using STEM to detect water pollution in real-time and avoid water disruption. The second place winners, Team EUNOIA of SMK (P) Sri Aman developed an idea to improve overall indoor air quality by increasing the density of indoor plants and using multiple elements of STEM. The third place winners, Team STEM Sri U of SMK Sri Utama, developed a facial recognition and thermal scanner app as an alternative for business users to register customers instead of existing QR codes. For their efforts, the winning teams took home Samsung products as prizes for the schools and themselves.

The 2021 PR Awards, which was held earlier this month, was organised by Marketing Interactive, a leading source of advertising, marketing and media intelligence. The awards, which are in its 8th year, recognizes outstanding work in the PR and communications industry across Asia, Australia and New Zealand. This submission alone, received over 400 entries, for 39 categories from across the region.
