Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi – An epic story telling series with impressive effects and great cast

When Disney+ Hotstar drops the announcement on the streaming of the limited series for Obi-Wan Kenobi, it was an opportunity to expand the story-telling of the Star Wars Universe.

So, does the six episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi series did its job to bring the immersive Star Wars experience? Short answer, it has done a great job. How great? Let’s find out more at below.

Obi Wan Kenobi has retained the original actors to reprise their own role. Ewan McGregor returns as Obi-Wan Kenobi, has managed to gave a huge impression for long-time fans of Star Wars. The introduction of new characters on the series also helps expand the Star Wars universe. It helps to refresh the universe without going overboard as well with some characters which last time only appeared in animation and comics.

With a mature look and a new life crisis after Star Wars Episode 3, the character for Obi-Wan Kenobi has shown he has lived a low-profile life and avoiding the Imperial by leaving the Jedi way. Kenobi also has a much cooler attitude as well but slowly return to his normal state as the series progress. Definitely hats off to Ewan to pull off again as Kenobi with such charismatic acting performance in the series.

While there are certain episodes provides a slow progress story, it was a good decision as it left viewers some breathing space and telling other parts of the story. Battle scenes was definitely top notch here especially for the Lightsaber fight scene, primarily when Kenobi and Darth Vader showdown.

Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is also fantastic with Hayden Christensen retaining the alter ego of Anakin Skywalker. Showing his true Dark side and ruthlessness, Darth Vader remains the iconic villain that every Star Wars fans loves. Even the quotes from Darth Vader on the final episode with Kenobi, plays an iconic moment for everyone, so remember to watch that part.

Reva, played by Ingram Moses, also contributes a lot for the series as we slowly uncover her background.

The effects for the series is also very surreal as well. Especially for the scene of Daiyu, the effects making the city alive is so immersive that you feel as if you wanted to roam around there if you’re a fan of Star Wars universe.

With that said, I would give a 9.0 out of 10 for Obi-Wan Kenobi as the series provides an amazing story-telling that Star Wars fans has been longing for. Together with modern story telling, amazing effects and great cast, Obi-Wan Kenobi is definitely a must-watch and you can watch it exclusively in Malaysia via Disney+ Hotstar. May the Force be with you and get immersed with Obi-Wan Kenobi today.
