ReGen Rehab Hospital (“ReGen Rehab”) has recently launched Robotic Rehabilitation programme to treat patients and individuals who are recovering from neurological conditions, including stroke and spinal cord injury. The ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Dr. Wan Ismail, Parliament Member of Bandar Tun Razak

The goal of this initiative is to provide the public with greater availability and accessibility to structured and tailored rehabilitation interventions to enhance independent mobility and improve the overall health of individuals with a history of stroke, spinal cord injury or any other neurological conditions. This resonates with ReGen Rehab’s commitment of “Bringing You Back” by helping to improve the quality of life of their patients, and the community as a whole, through innovative and cutting-edge technologies.

“Rehabilitation is very important for anyone who has experienced any form of neurological condition. The goal of rehabilitation is to restore functional ability and quality of life through a structured programme done in a timely manner and supported by a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals. Advanced technologies such as robotics facilitates high-intensity therapy through repetitive movements, thereby promoting neuroplasticity in helping the brain relearn and regain lost abilities,” explains Hanafi Salehuddin, Chief Executive Officer of ReGen Rehab.

ReGen Rehab is a joint venture between Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the strategic investment fund of the Government of Malaysia, and Select Medical, one of America’s leading rehabilitation hospital companies. It is established to advance the development of rehabilitation medicine and create accessibility for the public. The #StrongerTogether initiative by ReGen Rehab offers free assessment and free trial session for Robotic Rehabilitation to individuals and patients who are dealing with neurological conditions, such as stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease and multiple sclerosis. This offer is available from 1 June 2023 until 31 July 2023.

Restoring Mobility through Robotic Rehabilitation

“At ReGen Rehab, we take pride in providing our patients with a level of care and support that prioritises their needs and recovery goals. By integrating Robotic Rehabilitation into our existing neurological rehabilitation programme, it allows us to continue to push the boundaries in recovery outcomes, as we support patients in regaining their confidence and quality of life. I am proud of the talented team here at ReGen Rehab, as we actively stay committed towards restoring mobility for our patients,” said Hanafi Salehuddin, Chief Executive Officer of ReGen Rehab

There are currently two streams under the Robotic Rehabilitation programme.

One is a robotic exoskeleton device targeted for lower limb rehabilitation. Made up of a complex range of parameter settings to suit patients’ walking abilities, the robotic exoskeleton brings forth a new age of lower limb rehabilitation, allowing patients to promptly get back to their natural walking pattern.

Along with that, the Hand Hub programme is a set of three robotic devices designed for upper limb rehabilitation. The programme aims to stimulate muscle activation, promote functional task training, and provide strengthening through an interactive gamification experience. The hand hub programme can be used for patients with various needs and capabilities.

The debut of ReGen Rehab’s Robotic Rehabilitation programme is an advancement within the Malaysian medical field, as it provides services typically harder to achieve through traditional therapy methods. With the implementation of precise, targeted, and repetitive exercises, patients with a history of stroke, spinal cord injury or any neurological condition will be able to improve the overall vigour and vitality of their upper and lower limbs, ultimately benefiting from expedited mobility recovery.
