NACSA, Huawei Malaysia inks MoU to improve Malaysia’s cyber security and cryptology initiatives

The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to enhance collaboration on Malaysia’s cyber security and cryptology initiatives, including AI security and digital sovereignty.

Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim witnessing the MoU exchange between Executive Vice President Public Affairs and Communications Department (PACD) and Director of the Board Huawei Malaysia, Eric Du and Chief Executive of the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), Ir. Dr. Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin, joined by (L-R) National Security Council (NSC) Director General YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin and Minister of Communications, YB Fahmi Fadzil.

The exchange, witnessed by Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, occurred during the second NACSA Cyber Security Summit (NCSS) 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

The partnership will help share information and have technical discussions. It will explore opportunities for joint research, support training, and build innovative models in technology development. Additionally, the partnership will encourage shared understanding of laws and technical needs in cryptology, which includes encryption and secure communication methods, as well as cyber security.

The collaboration will also look into working together on AI security and digital sovereignty. This includes discussing policies, governance, and technical aspects while following relevant laws. It will help create strong governance and protection measures for important infrastructure and services as AI becomes more common in key areas.

“With cyber threats evolving in scale and sophistication, close collaboration between government and industry is essential to strengthen national resilience. Cyber security has become fundamental to economic growth, public confidence and national competitiveness. Through this collaboration with NACSA, we look forward to combining global expertise with local capacity building to help Malaysia strengthen its cyber defences, enable the secure and responsible adoption of AI and contribute towards the development of a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem for the nation,” said Huawei Malaysia Cyber Security and Privacy Protection Officer Lee Han Ther.

NACSA, the main agency for cyber security under the National Security Council in the Prime Minister’s Department, will lead the partnership, with Huawei Malaysia providing technology support. This teamwork aligns with NACSA’s mission to protect the country’s National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII) and to coordinate efforts against cyber threats.

The NCSS 2026, taking place from 7 to 9 July, is Malaysia’s top national cyber security summit. It’s organized by the government through the National Security Council and led by NACSA. Following the first event in 2024, the summit aims to move Malaysia’s cyber security agenda forward by bringing together government officials, business leaders, cyber security experts, academics, and law enforcement to discuss new threats, share best practices, and enhance overall cyber resilience.
