McDonald’s Titiwangsa Drive-Thru reopens with first one-of-a-kind Luna concept restaurant in Malaysia

McDonald’s Malaysia has reopened its Titiwangsa Drive-Thru restaurant at Jalan Pahang, a beloved spot in the community that has served Malaysians for nearly 40 years. It first opened on December 19, 1988, as Malaysia’s first Drive-Thru restaurant and holds a special place in McDonald’s history and the lives of local residents.

Situated in a well-known area of Kuala Lumpur, the Titiwangsa Drive-Thru is surrounded by homes, MRT stations, major hospitals, and the famous Titiwangsa Park. Over the years, it has become a popular stop for families, commuters, healthcare workers, and joggers, offering a convenient and welcoming place to gather.

The reopening is McDonald’s Malaysia’s first restaurant makeover of the year, showing its commitment to keeping neighborhood restaurants comfortable, accessible, and relevant. Instead of replacing a familiar place, the updates improve the restaurant’s role as a modern social hub, while keeping the friendly atmosphere that regular customers have enjoyed for 38 years.

“The Titiwangsa Drive-Thru is where our Drive-Thru journey in Malaysia began, and it has grown alongside this neighbourhood for 38 years,” said Dato’ Haji Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia. “This revitalisation is about ensuring the restaurant continues to feel welcoming, comfortable and relevant for the families, working community and neighbourhood it serves today.”

As part of the refurbishment, the restaurant has been upgraded to better support the needs of its surrounding community:

  • An expanded 180-seat dining area and first-floor lookout provide a more comfortable space for families, groups and regular patrons to spend time together.
  • Improved Drive-Thru lanes help ease traffic flow and support smoother service during peak hours.
  • The addition of a brand-new Playland provides families with young children a more enjoyable visit, while giving parents greater comfort and peace of mind.
  • A newly upgraded surau provides adds convenience for customers and crew members alike.

Together, these upgrades make McDonald’s Titiwangsa Drive-Thru more than just a stop for a quick meal; it transforms into a relaxed neighbourhood hangout where people can gather and connect.

Additionally, McDonald’s Titiwangsa introduces the first one-of-a-kind Luna concept restaurant in Malaysia and the second in Asia. The Luna design, inspired by the moon and banyan trees, embodies warmth and openness, blending contemporary architecture with familiar elements.

The façade features unique perforated metal panels reminiscent of the moon’s movement, complemented by warm lighting for a striking look day and night. Inside, there are three experiential zones: the Moon Area, with a Rising Moon Platform for memorable selfies; the Banyan Area, inspired by nature; and the Where Nature Meets Moonrise area, a bridge connecting the two.

With layered lighting and curated photo spots, the refreshed restaurant provides ample Instagram-friendly moments for customers.

“As a locally owned company, McDonald’s Malaysia is committed to reinvesting in neighbourhood restaurants like Titiwangsa that communities rely on every day,” Azmir added. “This reopening ensures McDonald’s Titiwangsa continues to feel familiar, while evolving into a space that reflects how people live, gather and connect today.”
