Maxis announced a significant expansion of its fibre network in Penang, aiming to connect over 100,000 homes by 2027. The rollout will cover all districts, focusing on high-demand urban areas like Jelutong, Georgetown, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, and Bayan Baru, as well as key locations on the mainland.
The launch ceremony, officiated by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, and Goh Seow Eng, CEO of Maxis, highlighted Maxis’ commitment to the state’s digital agenda aligned with the Penang2030 vision. Chow emphasized the importance of high-quality internet for education, talent development, and economic growth.
Goh expressed pride in supporting Penang’s digital journey, ensuring fast and secure connectivity through Maxis’ own fibre network. The expansion is aided by the Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines introduced by the state government, which streamline pole-sharing and enhance competition.
Maxis’ network spans over 23,000 km nationwide, serving more than half a million homes, and continues to expand in response to rising consumer demand for high-speed internet.
