
Maxis and Huawei Malaysia have joined forces to establish a Joint Innovation Centre, focusing on developing 5G-Advanced technology for enhanced customer experiences, operational efficiency, and industry use cases. The collaboration aims to drive technological advancements and elevate Malaysia’s position in the global telecommunications landscape. The partnership was formalized at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange during the Malaysia Commercialisation Year Summit 2024, attended by dignitaries such as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Under this collaboration, Maxis and Huawei will explore innovations in gigabit capacity, mobile network expansions, and technologies like mobile edge computing, network slicing, and artificial intelligence. Maxis CEO, Goh Seow Eng, highlighted the significance of building human capital and fostering innovation to support Malaysia’s digital ambitions. Huawei Malaysia CEO, Simon Sun, expressed confidence in accelerating the nation’s digital transformation and positioning Malaysia as the ASEAN Technology Capital.
The partnership will also focus on nurturing local talent through academia-industry engagements, training programs, and research projects to prepare Malaysian professionals for the evolving telecommunications sector. At the MCY Summit 2024, Maxis demonstrated the real-world impact of 5G-Advanced applications in education, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors.
Maxis and Huawei Malaysia have a history of collaboration in advancing mobile network technologies, including staging the first 5G-Advanced technology trial showcase in Southeast Asia earlier this year. Through their continued partnership, the companies aim to showcase the economic potential of 5G-Advanced technology and drive innovation in Malaysia.
