Nando’s has recently hosted the International Grillers’ Challenge (IGC) 2023 edition at Nando’s Pavilion Bukit Jalil which saw local Master Griller, Muhammad Nazib bin Juhari being awarded the second runner-up at the end of the day.

The IGC is an annual affair for all employees of the brand, demonstrating Nando’s commitment to employee growth and empowerment. Through the fiery challenge, we see the Master Grillers’ dedication to quality in every aspect of the meal and service, which has played a pivotal role in our success globally.
Fondly known as Nazib, the Master Griller from the Nando’s Citta Mall outlet beat 28 other participants and was recognized for his mastery of the grill after an intense day of competition. Cheered on by his teammates and Nando’s employees from around the world, Nazib’s hard work was rewarded after his win was announced at a special gala dinner to end the night. Katie Connolly from Australia was named the champion, with Kelvin Dube from South Africa coming in second place.

“Whenever I step behind the grill, not just for competitions such as this, but whenever I am on duty at the restaurant – I always do my best to serve up the best. Iron sharpens iron, and this experience at IGC has certainly taught me a lot about passion, giving me the courage to persevere and push through. It is an honour to compete amongst my colleagues, my Nando’s family, locally and globally so we can push each other to do even better in the future,” Nazib shared.

Aside from Nazib, Malaysia was also represented by Muhammad Afzal Shah bin Norhisham from the AEON Bukit Tinggi outlet and Siti Nurhaliza binti Ismail from the Juru Auto City outlet who were selected after months of intense qualifying nationwide.
The Nando’s spirit was evident through the fire and palpable excitement at the IGC 2023, where each contestant who took to the grill was supported 120% no matter which outlet or country they were from. Competition aside, each individual present was committed to sharing their zeal and dedication towards the Nando’s family.
Chai Hui Fung, Chief Commercial Officer of Nando’s Malaysia shares, “Our dedication to quality in and out of the kitchen is our reason for equipping our people for a continuous journey of learning, development and improvement. Through competitions such as IGC 2023, we want to empower our people to be proud of their contributions. We recognise them not just for their skills but also for their passion in grilling the best chicken and the pride they have in what they do. This event reinforces the Nando’s belief that “it’s the People that makes the Chicken”.
