Make eight-second video clips with sound from your photo with Google’s Gemini

Google has recently added a new photo-to-video capability in Gemini, allowing users to transform their favorite photos into dynamic eight-second video clips with sound.

The creativity from users has been amazing, with over 40 million Veo 3 videos created on the Gemini app and Flow in the past seven weeks. You can reimagine fairy tales through a modern influencer’s perspective or make ASMR videos that capture the sound of cutting through cooling lava. With Gemini, your imagination is the only limit.

Photo-to-video brings your images to life

To turn your photos into videos, choose ‘Videos’ from the tool menu and upload a photo. Then, describe what you see and include any audio instructions. Watch as your still image becomes a lively video. You can be creative by animating everyday objects, making your drawings come alive, or adding movement to nature scenes. When your video is done, tap the share button or download it to share with friends and family.

This photo-to-video feature is starting to roll out today for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in some countries. Try it out at gemini.google.com. You can also find these features in Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking tool.

Our ongoing commitment to safety

Google is committed to let users to feel confident in the results and taking major steps behind the scenes to make sure video generation is an appropriate experience.

This includes extensive “red teaming,” where the company tests its systems to fix potential issues before they arise. They also conduct evaluations to understand tool usage and prevent misuse, while developing and enforcing Google’s policies against unsafe content. All generated videos include a visible watermark to show they are AI-generated and an invisible SynthID digital watermark.

Use the thumbs up and down buttons on your generated videos to give feedback to Google, which they’ll use to make ongoing improvements to our safety measures and overall experience.
