LG Electronics and Ambarella have announced that they will showcase a new in-cabin solution at CES 2025, featuring Ambarella’s CV25 AI system-on-chip integrated into LG’s Driver Monitoring System, which aims to enhance vehicle safety and is already in production with a global automotive OEM.
Ambarella’s CV25 chipset provides industry-leading AI performance per watt, enabling LG’s DMS to analyze high-resolution video from in-vehicle cameras in real time. It excels in object recognition, smooth HD video processing, and energy efficiency, making it suitable for various sensors. Manufactured with 10-nanometer technology, the CV25 ensures high-quality imaging in low light and across dynamic ranges, maintaining stable monitoring in any environment.
Leveraging LG’s VisionWare, the new DMS accurately detects eye and head movements to assess driver distraction or drowsiness using AI. It can recognize these cues regardless of the driver’s race, gender, or age, and ensures precise detection even with accessories like sunglasses or hats.
LG’s DMS solution integrates seamlessly into various software and hardware configurations, providing automotive OEMs flexibility in developing new vehicle models. This flexibility also applies to other Ambarella-based LG in-cabin solutions, such as its Interior Monitoring System. Furthermore, LG aims to expand its partnership with Ambarella to enhance the performance of its in-cabin solutions and elevate the mobility experience.
LG and Ambarella are committed to enhancing vehicle safety through collaboration, enabling OEMs to meet NCAP and GSR standards. LG also contributes its expertise to Ambarella’s innovation ecosystem in AI-driven perception, fusion, and planning for automotive systems.
“The combination of LG’s highly accurate and reliable in-cabin solutions with the industry-leading AI performance per watt of our CVflow SoCs is enabling automotive OEMs to achieve the highest vehicle safety levels,” said Fermi Wang, President and CEO of Ambarella. “Our CV25 SoC combines high performance for processing LG’s AI perception stack, along with great efficiency for low power consumption and reduced thermal management, resulting in compact, flexible form factors for vehicle interiors.”
“Our collaboration with Ambarella represents a major step forward in the use of AI-driven technology to advance vehicle safety,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle Solutions Company. “By combining LG’s in-cabin monitoring expertise with Ambarella’s cutting-edge AI chipset, we’re setting a new standard for in-cabin solutions and actively enhancing road safety.”
