Lenovo partners with Austral Techsmith for 5G smart poles at Malaysia’s smart cities

Lenovo is partnering with Austral Techsmith to enhance the capabilities of their 5G smart pole technology, which is set to be deployed in Malaysia. The partnership aims to integrate Lenovo’s innovative AI-powered solution, ThinkEdge, into the poles, revolutionizing video analytics for smart cities. The ThinkEdge SE50, powered by Intel Core i7 vPro processor, is designed with intelligent edge capabilities and offers state-of-the-art features and unmatched data processing performance.

As urbanization increases, traffic congestion becomes increasingly pressing. The Lenovo ThinkEdge SE50 is equipped with mounting kits onto lamp posts that enable traffic monitoring for congestion hotspots and dynamic adjustments to traffic light control systems. It also features flexible IO ports, including 4 NICs on embedded compute nodes, to enhance connectivity and improve decision-making and automation.

The Lenovo ThinkEdge SE50 is designed for reduced latency, putting increased processing power, storage, and network closer to where data is generated. This system detects dangerous situations in real-time, aiding in prompt intervention, accident prevention, and evidence collection. Lenovo offers Austral Techsmith and its customers an attractive Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) option, allowing for the lease of ThinkEdge, eliminating upfront costs and making cutting-edge technology more accessible and cost-effective for organizations and city councils looking to implement AI video analytics.

Austral Techsmith has been a key player in Malaysia’s ambitious 5G infrastructure expansion since 2022, contributing significantly to the nationwide telecommunications infrastructure. By prioritizing excellence and innovation in enhancing telecommunications infrastructure and ensuring universal connectivity, Austral Techsmith aims to advance the nation’s telecommunications capabilities and facilitate seamless connectivity for all.
